FULL TEXT INDEXES

Thanks to the kind assistance of many of you, the CD ROM with the text in PDF format for all of the published volumes of the Nihon Tô Kôza and Shin Nihon Tô Kantei Nyûmon has been successfully completed.

Below are some general guidelines.
None of them contain the pictures.  These are in the books.

The files are those of all six of the published volumes of the Nihon Tô Kôza translations, the translation of the Shin Nihon Tô Kantei Nyûmon.  Many of you have this book already, and as you know, it contains no index..  This will greatly enhance the usability of this translation.

These do not work for me in Windows 95.

Adobe Acrobat Reader 5.0 or 6.0 is necessary to read these files.  Most computers nowadays come with this already installed, but if you do not have it, it is available as a free download.. The necessary URL is provided in the Read Me First file on the disc.

In order to read the Japanese text, it is necessary to download a CJK pack from Adobe Corporation web site.  The URL for this is also in the Red Me First file on the disk.

The Koto Volumes, II, II, and IX contain searchable Japanese text.  The search can be done by typing in the Japanese, or by using the copy and paste functions.  I have done this in a computer using Win 2000 and with no Japanese laguage capabilities installed.   Search results are posted differently in Acrobat Reader 5.0 and 6.0.  The former provides them one at a time, the latter provides a list.

In Win 98, the copy and paste functions are disabled using the search function.  I am assuming this is a property of Win 98, and not due to the Version 5.0 of Acrobat reader not being upgraded.  However, the Japanese text does appear in the files, and you can search in English.  For example, if you search for MUNE, you will get every occurence, whether it is in the first or last part of a name, or in, for example, iori mune.  Making the search case sensitive will eliminate the latter types.

Volume V is a special case, as the names are not in all caps in the text.  But a simple click of the mouse or pressing the enter key takes you to the next key.  Also, in Volume V, the sign @ appears in the text.  These were merely place holders for gluing the kanji in by hand.  Also, there are references to pages and pictures.  These were aids in gluing in the pictures and captions on the print master.  A lot of scissors and glue work went into this volume, forcing me to upgrade my software.

i must stress the following points.

1.  THIS IS NOT SHAREWARE.  They are not to be given or lent to a third party, or copied and resold.  They are not to be posted on a web site or server.

2.  THE FILES ARE NOT TO BE ELECTRONICALLY MANIPULATED AND GIVEN AWAY PIECEMEAL.  IT IS NICE TO SHARE KNOWLEDGE.  IT IS NOT NICE TO GIVE AWAY THE FRUITS OF SOMEONE ELSE'S LABOR.  If anyone feels that someone should be given this for free, let me be the one to do it.

3..  Can I enforce the above?  Of course not.  I have to count on the good will and honor of you in the sword community.  As most of you know, I make my living by translating.  This is not a hobby, or just something to occupy idle hours.  There are many people who translate Japanese to English, but as far as I know, there has not been anyone translate as many books as I have on the subject.  There must be a reason.  Either it does not pay well for the time it takes, or I am stupid.  Perhaps both of the above.

If you agree to abide by the above, the cost of FULL TEXT INDEX DISC is 100 dollars, postage paid anywhere in the world.

I will have the discs for sale and on demonstration at the Chicago show.  They are ready for mailing now, but please bear in mind that I will be getting ready for the drive to Chicago, and will do most of the mailing after I return home.

If you have any further questions, please email me privately.

As with everything else I sell, payment can be by Credit Card, Personal check drawn on a U.S. bank, or international postal money order.
