CA Glue Reaction Notes
An interesting aside during this construction was my second reaction to
CA glue. I'd suffered a previous serious reaction when building
the Phaeton that was scary. It caused an almost acute respiratory
condition very close to a trip to the emergency room. The
reaction produced a flood of clear thin fluid from the mucous tissues
which collected in the lungs and forced prolific coughing to
clear. During the first reaction, I believe a portion of a lung
collapsed and for a couple of weeks, I'd found myself short of breath
when speaking. Several days later, questions continued about why
my voice sounded strange.
Several comments led me to believe it might be the thin CA that was the
problem as it smokes when kicking and others had related discomforts
with it but not with medium or thick. It was thin I was using
prior to that first reaction so I decided to go only with the medium CA
on this build and well to ventilate. My building room has an outside
door to back yard as well as forwar door to garage so can be cross ventilated very
well. It also has a ceiling fan and as well I used a small fan to
blow across the building board and even with the doors open, the second
reaction was experienced. Though far less severe as the first, it
was bad enough. Two hours after working on the wing, I could
barely talk and the clear fluid flowed again and I was hacking.
Now several days later, I've still sinus drainage and symptoms very
similar to a viral infection and the hacking continues.
I'm now very convinced of an allergy to it, I will never use CA again for building.
