Blaster Pump

One of R&R's best upgrades is a blaster pump.  In conjunction with other plumbing upgrades, the pump becomes a very often used upgrade.  Other parts of the plumbing upgrade are:
  • Two 9 gal water tanks under the V-berth
  • A marine head with 13 gal holding tank
  • Seacock for water intake to either the head or the blaster pump
  • Three way diverter valve to allow:
    • Fresh water to the head during on the road use
    • Fresh water to the blaster pump
    • Sea water to the blaster pump
  • 15 ft water hose coiled inside door of galley locker (can reach any part of boat)
  • Filler valve which allows using the onboard water hose to backfill the fresh water tanks
  • Vent line to the anchor locker (allows easy flushing of the fresh water tanks)
I believe that a back filled tank system is a superior system on a non lived aboard boat.  In conjunction with using the blaster pump, the fresh water tanks and line get refreshed often and don't build up the black scum most owners complain about.

It is simple to connect a water hose to the the 15' boat hose via a double female connector, open a small valve and pressure fill the tanks and let the water flow until water pours from the vent line in the anchor locker.  Leaving it flow a bit flushes the tanks.  The often used blaster pump also ensures that the tanks are replenished often.  Because the hose is so readily accessible , I use the blaster pump to fill the teakettle, rinse dishes, wash scum off hull after a pull out, clean up after hoisting anchor, washing the boat and even taking a bath.
