| The 250 does well on the 110 jib above 8 knots of wind, but below that she can use more headsail. It makes good sense then to make that sail a light air sail. Ullman Sails in Ventura California has designed a 155% Drifter / Reacher that is cut high at the clew and sheets aft to stern stanchion bases. This sail offers fun and color as well as keeping the boat moving on those light air days. The sail is easily rigged with a tack line feeding thru a stem block with line led aft for luff adjustment. 1/4 inch light sheets are all that are required and they lead aft to small turning blocks at the base of the aft stanchions and then route back forward for cleating. It is best handed on a starboard broad reach as this keeps it in the lee of the main while hoisting or dousing. Not wanted, is stepping on it as its very slick. I find it easier to have the sail bag attached to the mast by turn snaps so that one hand can stuff the sail as the other hands the halyard. ![]() |
