Early production of the c250
at
least until hull #224 had short jib lead tracks. The tracks were
too short to bring the cars aft far enough to twist the jib off
adequately in a breeze. This is another mod perhaps more for the
cruiser and one made possible by the addition of coaming winches.
While longer tracks can be installed, the necessity of filling
the
holes with resin make it a fair job. This system has the benefit
of using the existing track as well as allowing on the fly jib sheet
angle adjustment while under load, something usually only possible with
expensive systems.
This is actually not a barber hauler in the more common sense which of course is used to pull jib sheets inboard from the rail, but it uses the same dynamic to alter the angle of sheeting. They work quite well. I did not know the name of them and in fact had never heard of them when I decided to try the concept. I was really expecting the lazy side to foul but was surprized as they do not. They are easy to rig and require a block, a piece of line and a cam cleat and of course will only work if there is a fairlead or turning block ahead of sheet winch as is the case with the added winches on the coamings. When using twings, the cars are parked in a fully forward position. The twing is eased out to simulate the car moving aft and hauling fully down has the effect of the car fully forward. Adjusting while under load is no problem so there is no need to luff the jib to readust the jib car. The advanatage is that the trim angle can be dialed in very well without guessing. |
