Fuel Locker Cover

Catalinas 2002 models introduced a modification to the fuel locker.  The new locker lid is fiberglass and is hinged.  The likely reason for the change is a safety issue.  If the bungee should fail while under tow... the lid might get blown loose to sail down the road behind the boat and possibly do damage.  It also could end up deep sixing.

The fix for this is to keep the bungee in good condition and secure a lanyard which, will provide some degree of safety.  It will not totally prevent the hatch from doing damage if it should fly loose while trailering, though it would certainly help.  The eye straps on the lid are not thru bolted though the rails on which mounted are.  Thru bolting the eye strap that a lanyard is attached to would be a step in the right direction. 

Not many people will follow too closely to a vehicle with objects dancing loose... and they often will let you know there is a problem. I've been flagged a couple of times by motorist... once when the holdown strap came loose and the other for a very low tire.  If a motorist high signs that something is amiss... pay attention.
