Re-enforce
the 2nd generation rudder
My favorite rudder is the 2nd
generation beaching. 17
inches longer than the 3rd generation, it has more lift . It also
has forgiveness should a grounding occur. Now balanced
and with a good working hold down system, its a great performing
rudder. However, it has some horizontal cracks just
below the rudder head. I don't know if these are crazing cracks
do to normal flex of the fairly thin rudder or if there
is actual fiberglass cracking. If its determined that the cracks
are structural, my plan is to remove the gel coat in the area and apply
carbon fiber reenforcement.
