Rudder Storage and Trailering
The 2nd and 3rd generation rudders are too long to
trailer in place on the water ballast model. I've
trailered many 2,600 mile round trips by inverting it on the
gudgeons. I did drill the second pintle for a cotter pin and have
both pinned. Secure with bungee to keep the rudder from swinging.
A reminder: The heat attracted by a darker paint will cause
rudders to swell and stress. They should only be stored in the
sun if they have no dark bottom paint or are covered with a blanket
made from reflective duct insulation or windshield dash
protectors.
