Battery Switch

Cruisers will need more than the single group 24 battery located in the aft compartment.  Whether adding more batteries aft or in the V berth locker... a switch is needed to manage their use.  Prior to moving the two six volt batteries to the V berth, I had one on each side of the group 24.  It was logical then to place the switch near them and I did so on the aft berth bulkhead.  It would likely be better for someone who is adding batteries initially in the V berth to route the wires near the switch panel and locate the battery switch there.  I left the group 24 battery aft so decided to leave the battery switch there as well.

Also needed are fuses.  These may be in the form of inline fuses or fuse block panel.  I chose the block panel because I had it and it would be easier to change a fuse.  The block has three fuses.  One serves the trunk line going to the switch panel, the second serves the dc outlet in the cockpit and the third serves the macerator pump.  Any batteries in the V berth should be fused prior to running the line away from the battery.  DC voltages while not able to shock someone, can quickly melt the wires in the case of a short and start a fire if not fused.
