V-Peak Shelf

Recently, Ben (owner of Chick-a-pea) posted a pic of his V-peak shelf which I thought made great use of the forward V-berth (V-peak) area.  I sleep in the V-berth because of its better ventilation and easier access and as Ben has suggested, there needs to be a place for stowage of reading material.

While playing pirate in the boat with my grandson, I stole some time to play with Ben's shelf and discovered that it and two storage boxes I'd aquired could be integrated in a way that allowed the boxes to be slung (necessary to keep clearance for one cushion to be place on the other when accessing the V-berth locker).  The easy to access boxes would be ideal for electrical, plumbing and rigging repair odds n ends and just might relieve some of what seemed like a constant need to unpack a locker to get an electrical eyelet or some such.

A cardboard template showed that a 16" shelf was needed. The home center had a 15"x 48" white clad shelf (close enough).  A two inch teak fiddle was rabbited and screwed to the shelf.   Hangers to support the storage boxes were fitted.

My template was off slightly with additional trimming getting the shelf one inch from the forward bulkhead and leaving the pouch usable.

Adequate space remains under the boxes for one cushion to be place on the other while accessing the V-berth locker.  The shelf bears upon the liner ledge and is secured with a single screw on each aft corner so that it can be easily removed.

Needed is a reading light of some sort and
maybe a curtain to hide the boxes

Dimensions for any one interested
