Prescott, Ontario resident Sandi MacKay, a committed volunteer in her community, died at St. Vincent de Paul Hospital, in Brockville on May 23, 1999. She was 52.

Her work with the Prescott Scouting and Guiding movements began in 1964 and since then she had served in various capacities including an assistant Brownie Leader, a Guide Leader, an Assistant Deputy Commissioner for Beavers and as "Hawkeye," leader of the 7th Beaver Colony in Prescott. Sandi was the first Beaver leader in this area and helped other local Beaver colonies get started.

She also served as a volunteer with various other groups in the community, including St. Mark's Catholic Women's League and Birthright, an organization she was an active member of since its inception in 1980. Sandi also delivered Meals on Wheels to the elderly for more than 13 years and helped the elderly go shopping and get to their doctors' appointments.

Sandi was a member of the Parent Advisory Council at South Grenville District High School and volunteered at St. Mark's and St. Joseph's schools in the breakfast program, as a substitute crossing guard, as a bus driver, and as a reading coach for Grade 2 and 3 children.

She helped youth in the community with counselling and by bringing them into her home.

Sandi won the Prescott Chamber of Commerce Citizen of the Year award in 1993, an example of the quiet community contributor whose good work is known only to close associates.

Her hobbies, in addition to her extensive volunteer work, included crocheting and gardening. She worked as a housewife at home.

Sandi is survived by her mother June Anna (Needle) Robinson and by her husband Duncan MacKay. Also surviving are sons Matthew (fiance Christine), Christopher (Jennifer), Michael, Timothy (Amy), Thomas, Andrew and Anthony as well as grandchildren Kaitlyn and Travis.

Also surviving are brothers Art (Vivian), Jim (Maureen) and Chris.

She was predeceased by her father, Ralph (Fah) Robinson.
