The earliest EURE in the book is James Eure that seems to have settled in Gates County in the earliest decades of the 1700's. It has proved difficult to prove who his children were, and only a tentative conclusion has been made that James Eure Jr was his son. The assumption that James Jr is the James for which an estate division was made in 1808, provides the links for James Jr (and in turn his father) to James Jr's children -most notably Uriah, b 1759, who served in the Revolution, and d 1837; for which many descendants are known. Another major ancestor for many of the families is Stephen Eure b ca 1736, who served as an ensign in the Revolution, and d 1817. A third major ancestor is Charles Eure b bef 1747, a militia leader, and d 1816. Unfortunately, the relationship for Stephen and Charles to James (Sr) has not been found -though they could be his sons. The final major ancestor's name has not been established, but he is the father of Barsheba (Eure) Leigh and Benjamin Eure, and would have been born before 1750. They and other more or less minor ancestors, comprise the 20 families of which all these others descend.
