Thomas J. Vaughan
I Thomas J. Vaughan of Murfreesboro, N.C., Hertford county, being of sound mind but knowing the uncertainty of life,
do make this my last will, and testament.
_tem 1st    I wish my wife to have my body decently, but not extravegantly buried.
2nd    I gave and bequeath to my wife Mary Elizabeth Vaughan all of my half interest in Priceton Farm,
consisting of cattle, mules, sheep, hogs, cotton gin, and fixtures in other words half of the land and half of what is on
the land (described above) during her natural life, and at her death to go to my brother Uriah Vaughan, with the understanding
it is not to go out of the family, as that was my decd fathers wish.
Item 3rd    I give to my wife Mary Elizabeth Vaughan all of my undivided interest in my fathers estate, all of
that part that has not already been divided between his heirs.
Item 4th    The balance of my estate consisting of money in the Norfolk National Bank, and Citizens Bank
of Norfolk Va, also bonds to the amount of six thousand dollars against the state of NC, bearing four per cent Interest,
paybale twice a year, said bonds are in my safe at store. Also two thousand Dollars borrowed of me by Robert W. Wilson
of Batts, md., for which I have his note, bearing five per cent Interest, also my half Interest in property in Atlantic City,
N__folk Va, owned by my sister Mrs. Thomas W. Hawkins and my-self, also my life insurance policy for three thousand
(which policy will be found in my safe)
Item 5    I give and bequeath to my wife Mary Elizabeth Vaughan all of that part of the furniture in my house which I
purchased, (the picturesm Selves, pia__s and some peices of the furniture were given her, and are hers to which I lay no claim),
also bonds against Murfreesboro Rail Road amounting to thirteen Hundred Dollars, the above described bonds I wish her to
have collected, and the money from same to be paid to her. All of the above mentioned personal and real estate and money accueing
there from I give to her during her natural life.
With regard to my store and store lot and goods and chattles in the store I wish them all to be sold, and all of the money
there from given to my wife Mary Elizabeth Vaughan, with the exception of Eight hundred Dollars, as to its distribution
I will explain further on [a line cut off my copy]
I wish to be explicit viz=
And that is I give to my wife who has been such a comfort to me all of the within mentioned property, personal & real, during
her life. I give and bequeath to Mary Elizabeth Vaughan (my wife) Eleven Thousand Dollars in her own right and title
to do with as she thinks best, for her Eleven thousand Dollars I wish her to have my life insurance policy, consisting
of three thousand Dollars, a note of two thousand Dollars, with Interest due me by Rob__t W. Wilson of Batt_, md. and Six
North Carolina Bonds of one thousand Dollars each, bearing four per cent Interest -The Eleven Thousand Dollars alluded
to above, which I give her in fee simple at my death is hers. The balance of my real and personal estate she is to have
during her life, and at her dath I make the following bequests.
To my brother Uriah Vaughan I give and bequeath my half
interest in Princeton Farm, viz. half of all alluded to above, provided it is not sold out of the estate, as it was this was the
wish of my dear father.
To my sister Mrs. Thomas W. Hawkins my half interest in Atlantic City property, Norfolk Va.
To my nephew Collin Barnes Two Thousand Dollars in money.
To my neice Mary Early Vaughan Five hundred Dollars in money.
To my neice Sarah Jenkins Vaughan daught of Uriah Vaughan Five hundred Dolalrs.
To Mrs. Ann Spiers Parker one hundred Dollars (to be paid to her at my death)
To my friend A. A. Martin of Portsmouth, Va, my watch and chain and one hundred Dollars.
To my friend Miss Waller Wynn I give Five hundred Dollars.
To John H. Odom one Hundred Dollars.
All of the money from the sale of the store, store lot, goods & chattles in the store,
including the eight hundred Dolalrs referred to above I give to my wife Mary Elizabeth Vaughan.
To my friend Doc. John T. Eldrige who has been such a comfort to us one thousand Dollars,
None of the above legacies are to be paid until after the death of my wife, except the one Hundred Dollars left
Mrs. Ann Parker. The balance of my estate I give and bequeath to my wife Mary Elizabeth Vaughan to do as she thinks best with,
I appoint as my executors Uriah Vaughan of Murfreesboro N.C. and Thomas W. Hawkins of Littleton N.C. Written this the
19th day of Apr. 1895.
