Sheriff's Citizens on Patrol (SCOP) is a volunteer organization whose purpose is to provide additional eyes and ears for the Humboldt County Sheriff's Department. Organized Spring 1996 |
SCOP members (two persons per car) patrol county areas in marked Sheriff's Dept vehicles equipped with radios and cell phones. SCOP members also provide helping hands at local community events by providing traffic control, fingerprinting youngsters and doing bicycle safety checks. SCOP members do not have law enforcement authority. |
SCOP members are required to attend an extensive training academy taught by deputy sheriffs, other law enforcement personnel and experienced SCOP members. Following graduation from the academy, SCOP members are expected to volunteer at least 16 hours per month. |
SCOP members are all volunteers under the general direction of the Humboldt County Sheriff's Dept. SCOP candidates must have a good driving record and pass a background check.
