SOCIAL STUDIES CLASSROOM PROCEDURES AND POLICY
Class Time
o Enter classroom quietly.
o Sharpen pencils
o Pick up textbook, journal, and notebook from shelves. o
o Quietly take your seat.
o Begin working the daily warm-up.
o Turn in your homework when requested by the teacher.
o Lesson/Activity
o If you finish your class work before the end of the period, read your library book,
or select a book or magazine from the social studies classroom library to read.
Dismissal
o The teacher will announce when class is over.
o Pick trash up from floor and throw away.
o Return textbook, journal, and notebook to shelf.
o Leave class quietly and proceed to your next class.
Quiet Please
o When the teacher's hand goes up, or the bell rings:
o Freeze
o Turn and face the teacher.
o Pay attention and keep your eyes on the teacher.
o Be ready for instruction. I will have something to say.
Hall Passes
o A hall pass is required to leave the SS classroom during the class period.
o Four hall passes are issued at the beginning of each nine week grading period.
o Unused hall passes may be turned in at the end of the grading period for extra credit.
o Each unused pass is worth 10 extra credit points.
o This is the only extra credit offered in social studies.
Headings
All student papers must have a heading formatted as follows:
o Mark your assigned student class number in the top right corner of the page. (ex. 1A1)
o Write the following in the top left corner of the page.
o First Name / Last name
o Subject - Period (ex. Texas History 1A)
o Date
o Title centered on the first line of paper. (ex. P121 Q1-2-3)
Journaling
All students will maintain their daily journal in a 100 page composition book.
o Each entry must have a heading, including a title.
o Number each item or question.
o Write in complete sentences.
o Restate the question in your answer.
o Journals will be turned in at a minimum of once a grading period.
o Your journal is for social studies use only! Do not use it for drawing, writing notes to your friends,
another class, or for any other purpose.

o It is expected that all assignments and projects be handed in on time.
o Assignments are due at the beginning of the class period.
o If homework is handed in after the assignment is collected, it will be considered one day late.
o Late homework will result in your grade being reduced.
o One day late -10%
o Two days late -20%
o Three days late -50%
o Four or more days late, NO CREDIT
o Late assignments/homework may result in additional negative consequences.
o Seventh grade students may expect a combined average from all classes of 70 minutes of homework
nightly.
o Eighth grade students may expect a combined average from all classes of 80 minutes of homework
nightly.
o ECH students may expect a combined average from all classes of 90 to 120 minutes of homework
nightly.
Make-up Work
o It is the Student's responsibility to make up work after an absence.
o Make-up work may be found on the agenda page of our class website.
o Handouts may be available on line and can also be found in the handout folder by the classroom door.
o Students will have one day for each day of absence to make up assignments.
o Special arrangements may be made for extended absence.
o Late make-up work will be penalized (see above).
o Work that is assigned when students are present must be turned in on the first day they return from
being absent.
o Students on field trips or other school sanctioned activities must have their assignments ready when
they return to class.
o All tests assigned before student was absent must be taken on the first day back to school, before or
after the school day, not during class time.
