i’m envious. i’m envious of all the people that either have been in the Leather lifestyle for many, many years or have discovered the leather community in their early adulthood.

i’m envious because i only discovered this side of myself about eight years ago and it took me until just a few years ago to discover that people really live in Master/slave relationships. It’s not just in stories or in chat rooms. It’s a way of life.

It’s only within the last couple of years that i’ve actually found there is an entire supportive community not just locally, but all across America and even around the world. To me it’s like crawling across the desert for years and finally discovering water!

In an effort to do something positive with my envy and use it for service, i’ve started on a quest to help those that have a curiosity and desire to explore just like i did.  It’s amazing to me how many people actually start asking questions. They’ll walk up to me at a party and just ask "what does that feel like?" "Why do you do that?" "What does it mean to be Master/slave?" I’ve had perfect strangers in line at the store ask "What is that chain around your neck? A dog collar?"

i have found it my opportunity to explain in whatever way might work for them in order to crack open their mind just a little into a different way of living. i have yet to be met with anything except curious attention.

Many times people are looking for a sense of Community, a sense that their feelings and curiosity can be considered normal.   i try to help by steering them toward resources;  books, local groups, munches, and events that will help with their path of discovery.

Those of us in the leather community have so many opportunities to answer questions and offer information. Perhaps we can help those lost souls that are trying to find us. It also helps us learn about ourselves in the process.
