FestivALL  If you have never spent a day taking in the festivities of Charleston’s FestivALL - be sure to schedule a day next year.  It brings the atmosphere of the Mardi Gras and Downtown Manhattan to the streets of Charleston.  Blue Million  opened up the Hale St. Stage Saturday on a beautiful sunny day with the occasional cool breeze that made the warmth of the sunshine feel that much better.  Checkout the videos on YouTube    Most definitely - it was a day for good music and just hanging out.

June 21, 2009

Ah, change.  Don’t you love it.   It’s the one thing you can always count on.  Blue Million has a new lineup.  Actually, the new lineup, is the original lineup with Gary Cash back on bass.  For those who have followed Blue Million over the years or recently discovered Blue Million, with Gary back, you are likely to  hear some songs from the original set lists and definitely, the “Vibe” of Blue Million’s  Rockin Blues.

And your first chance to see Gary back on stage will be Saturday June 28th at the FestivALL   Raising “Hale” Block Party, starting at 1:00 PM.  Pun intended, the stage is set up on Hale St. in downtown Charleston.

The next show following  FestivALL  is the 22nd Annual Boone County  WVU Alumni & Friends Golf Outing and Pig Roast .  After the festivities at Riverview Country Club, Blue Million  will be playing at the Toler’s house.

May 29, 2009

Blue Million  took the stage at the  Empty Glass  right on time for one short set.  Time flies when you’re having fun and the band was just getting warmed up - and it was a good night, lots of good bands, solo acts, and it was for a good cause.

Sometimes you just have to lean-back in your chair with a draught Guinness and enjoy some slow blues in “A”.   There’s no better place than the Empty Glass.

Check out the videos on YouTube .

May 25, 2009

Empty Glass  Friday May 29, 2009   Around 9:00 PM  Blue Million

will take the stage for one set during the Juvenile Diabetes Benefit Concert.  Check back for more details when they become available.

April 30, 2009

Bruno's  is the SPOT – Friday May 15, 2009   9:00 PM   Blue Million  has been working on lots of  New Originals and getting the Blues standard’s “revamped” to the band’s satisfaction.  Alan is going back to his roots where it all began as a teenager – playin’ the Blues on an SG electric guitar.  You won’t be disappointed if you like a mix of blues and originals about life from the heart of the Southern Coalfields of West Virginia – and that is Boone County.

Bruno's is a great venue if you like an evening out for great food and great live music. Bruno’s is on the corner opposite the Clay Center.  You may recall the location as Chef Dan’s, Top Cats, Blues BBQ, and O-Kay’s.  Now the team of Dan Barber and Jay Thomas are back at the site serving up great ribs (as in Blues BBQ fame) and great pizza from an authentic pizza oven.  The restaurant is a good place for a Friday evening dinner and then catching some live music.

March 3, 2009

Blue Million is BACK.   The well traveled Charleston bass player, Kevin Kidd, has joined the band. You may recognize Kevin as a member of the The Spurgie Hankins Band  and the Diablo Blues Band .   Alan, Andy, and Kevin are now in the Jam Room working out some kinks after an eight month layoff.  Check back for the first show – Alan is tinkering with his guitar and amp for that perfect Blues “edge” – don’t miss it.

July 3, 2008

This update brings the news that Jay Hill has left the band – it will take a little time to find another bass player – in the meantime, Alan and Andy will take a Short Intermission.

Two new Blue Million originals debuted at the June  8 th,  19th Hole  show  --  they will be archived and debuted with the future line-up  -  Stay Tuned.

For now, we’re posting a song from one of the Greats in Rock-n-Roll

Bo Diddley – R.I.P.   December 30, 1928–June 2, 2008  --  Enjoy!

June 8, 2008   Saturday Night at Clyde’s 19th Hole

Alan said “The Vibe” felt good from the stage  --  Watching the video, you would have to agree, the crowd felt the same way.

May 2, 2008 Check out Blue Million’s YouTube  page -- We have posted some more videos from the Clay Center Walker Theater show and YouTube videos are now embedded in our MySpace page.  We have also updated the PHOTO GALLERY with photos from the show.

April 19, 2008 Clay Center’s Walker Theater, - It was easy to see that Ron Sowell’s lineup for the Woody Hawley Series had a lot of people oblivious to the dreary, rainy day outside.  Blue Million opened for two well traveled musicians.  Little Toby Walker’s act had everybody laughing and Bob Malone’s Grand Piano was “tuned” to boogie.  With a full view of the audience from the back of the Walker Theater, you could see everyone was really enjoying Blue Million’s selection of songs from a short seven song opening set.

With a back stage pass, we now have some Behind the Scene photos.

Mar 30 2008 $8 Cover got you a Cool Tee Shirt and lots of great music.  Blue Million took the stage right on time :)   If you wanted your favorite beverage - it took a while - the place was PACKED.  The Empty Glass has definitely earned its place as one of the “Top 100 Bars In America.  It was a great lineup of local bands and musicians and a film crew was in the house taping for an upcoming documentary - we’ll keep you informed if Blue Million makes the “Cut.”

Check out our YouTube page for videos from the show

Feb 23, 2008  The room was full yesterday evening at Taylor Books and an enthusiastic crowd was enjoying Blue Million’s rockin’ blues covers and plenty of originals.  Alan’s friend, “Skinny Boy”, was also a crowd favorite when he took over the mic for an extended harp jam.  The crowd, the band, and “Skinny Boy” were all having a good time.

Just Posted - Check out the YouTube page for the 19th Hole version of Little Red Rooster and Next Year.

Feb 20, 2009  Blue Million has gone International.  A Google search for sites that link to www.alansongs.com finds the radio station HUON FM 95.3, Huon Valley, Tasmania, Australia.

Feb 16, 2008

Blue Million's repertoire of rockin' roadhouse blues is the best you’ve ever heard from south of the Mason Dixon line to Key West, Florida.

you missed another good show

Feb 11, 2008  Be sure to come out for the upcoming show at Clyde’s 19th Hole and hear Boone County’s very own Blue Million rockin' the “House”.  If you missed the Empty Glass show in Charleston Saturday, be sure to travel down Corridor “G” this Friday to hear Boone County’s version of rockin’ roadhouse blues.  It’s a friendly, local, hometown bar beside the county courthouse, and Clyde will welcome you in.  It’s likely to be standing room only - but you won’t be disappointed by the music.

Feb 10, 2009  This Saturday was a busy day for Blue Million with a set for the West Virginia Blues Society at 8:30 pm and a 10:30 set at the Empty Glass, opening for The Blind Terrence Blues Band.  The West Virginia Blues Society's Home Show series is a great gig - if you play the blues or even like the blues, give them a call.  The Empty Glass, as always, is a great venue.

We have posted two new YouTube videos from the West Virginia Blues Society set.  Check it out.

Feb. 3, 2008   Notice the new “gig” at the Empty Glass this coming Saturday, a last minute booking.  Also, the following week’s 19th Hole date has been moved to Friday.  After slowing things down a little after the holidays, the band got a chance to spend some time in the jam room---so expect to hear a “tighter” cover of your favorite Blues and Americana songs and Blue Millions’s originals.

Be sure to come out for one of the two upcoming shows --- it’s good medicine to cure “cabin fever.”

LATEST   PRESS   COVERAGE

Jan 24, 2008  LATEST  PRESS  COVERAGE  This week’s Charleston Gazzette entertainment insert, the gazz, has a review of the latest CD by Michael Lipton and the song “Waiting for a Melody” is featured as the Sound Check Song of the Day.

Jan 16, 2008  Blue Million’s next outing is a private show with the West Virginia Blues Society in their House Concert series.  The West Virginia Blues Society’s mission is to promote the blues heritage of West Virginia.  Check out their Webpage.

Dec 27, 2007 Catch U, from the new CD, is now posted on You Tube, check it out

                                                 Catch U  on  YouTube.com

Dec 22, 2007 The sale of the new CD was brisk at last night’s show at Taylor Books.  There was a good crowd – Thanks for coming by.  We have posted two new You Tube videos from the show, Alan solo, playing Don't Think Twice, and the band covering the blues classic, Little Red Rooster.  We will be posting a song from the new CD soon.

Dec 16, 2007 Whooo!!!  “Take a break”  Blue Million has been really busy the past few weeks.  Jay Hill has founded a music oriented, no-profit organization to provide financial help to sick and needy people.  The local Boone County newspaper, The Coal Valley News, featured on the front page, coverage for a benefit concert for a local musician, Justin Moore, who has been battling cancer since 2005.  The benefit concert yesterday for Justin was a great success! -- Writing new songs worthy of including on a new CD and “corralling” a quality recording is always challenging, I think you will like the latest effort.  The new CD is not yet back from the duplicator, hopefully, it will show up for this Friday’s Taylor Book show. -- Four songs from the CD have been posted to the Blue Million MySpace homepage, check’em out. -- Also, expect the debut of a new and improved www.alansongs.com web page in near future. -- We are also setting up distribution of the new CD through eBay and PayPal, direct mail orders, and Budget Tapes & Records in Kanawha City.  Of course, you can always come out to a show and purchase a copy.

Dec 9, 2007    The new Blue Million CD is now in Ashland being duplicated and will be available Dec 21st at the Taylor Book show.  You can hear four new songs from the CD on Blue Million’s MySpace page.

Nov 22, 2007 The Thanksgiving Eve show in Madison drew a packed house - Clyde was smiling and working hard behind the bar serving beers !!!   It was standing room only and the crowd was talkin’ back to the band -- and they were LOUD -- and you can hear them in our new YouTube videos.

Nov 17, 2007 We are working hard on a new CD with five songs ready to go with five or six more to finish.  We will soon be posting snippets of these songs and have CD’s for sale, but for now, we have some videos on YouTube from local shows.   VIDEO GALLERY

Nov 1, 2007   Thanks to Bob Brabbin for the new picture of the band and also find a new picture of Alan playing solo at Lola’s in the PHOTO GALLERY

Oct 30, 2007  To sum up the Taylor Books show  -  Great show, Great crowd, Great venue.  We will be back at Taylor Books, Dec. 21st,  I can’t believe Christmas is almost here already!

Oct 21, 2007  “I believe everybody is in Morgantown” was the quote of the evening from Alan.  The Boston Red Sox’s win to force game seven with the Cleveland Indians likely kept others at home.  Was there a NASCAR race too?  But despite the sports entertainment competition, the small crowd who were at the Blues BBQ last night caught an intimate Blue Million show.  Alan said: “I feel like I’m playing in someone’s living room.”  The featured YouTube video is Jay Hill’s original, No More, Click Here.

Oct 14, 2007  If you missed last nights show at the 19th Hole, here is a video of the opening song and a new original  -  we will soon be posting the closing song (which features dancing and a beer bottle).

Opening Song  -  Townes Van Zandt's  Poncho and Lefty

New Original  -  Boone County Sheriff

Sept 24, 2007 The Lola show last Wednesday offered great pizza, salads, beer, wine, a receptive crowd, and contemporary and classic folk music - “It doesn’t get any better than that.”  Despite forgetting my favorite folk singer’s stool, I felt good about the music.  Mia asked me to come back so keep checking the Up Coming Shows link for a future date ( I won’t forget my stool this time).

Sept 16, 2007  The Taylor Book crowd was big and appreciative and that always brings the best out of the band - Thank You.  I opened with a few of my favorite contemporary folk/singer songwriter songs.  Then the “unplugged” version of Blue Million took the stage, with Jay on bass and Andy with brushes -- they brought a great Coffeehouse “feel” to Blue Million’s regular blues rock song list.  I play solo at Lola's Wednesday and be sure to catch the “plugged‑in” version of Blue Million at the 19th Hole in Madison October 13.

Sept 10, 2007  THE GAZZ (Thanks Jessica and Nick) have posted two videos from the Blues BBQ show.  A dark bar doesn’t have the best lighting conditions and the sound quality from a camcorder suffers, but, the Bar Room ambience definitely comes through.

Link-Click on the picture

Sept 7, 2007  The Blues BBQ show is now in the “record book.”  Right out of the box, literally, Alan broke out a new SG electric guitar in the first set that he took possession of the day before  -  it sounded REALLY good.  Other bright spots from the show include the songs Little Red Rooster, Steppin’ Out, 96 Tears, and the original, Waiting For A Melody.  It was good to see a lot of Blue Million fans in a packed house.  THE GAZZ staff was in the crowd, so expect some photos and maybe a video in the near future. (by BD)

Sept 2, 2007  The ORDER A CD link has been updated.  CD Baby has snippets of music from each song on the CD - Check it out.  The LISTEN TO THIS link has also been updated and the PHOTO GALLERY has a couple of pictures now.

Morgan, send me a picture of you and your Dad together mailto:alansongsadm@suddenlink.net

Aug 26, 2007  Andy, you took some pictures Friday night, email me a copy if they turned out OK, mailto:alansongsadm@suddenlink.net

Coming Soon: A history of the 19th Hole and other bars in Madison and the musicians that played there (i.e. Lancasters, Freda’s, The Hilltop Inn, Hollis’s, The Bluebird, The White House . . . )

Alan, Andy, and Jay now have made the first official stop in the Summer Tour.  Tour may be stretching it, but the band is workin’ out some song and sound system issues playing live in local bars.  But, if you where at the 19th Hole, what you heard from the stage was obviously the best blues rock music being played anywhere.  WOW! is the best way to describe it. (by BD)

Aug 21, 2007  The band is workin’ extra hard this week in the “new” jam room at Alan’s house.  Be sure to show up in Madison this Friday at Clyde’s 19th Hole (Clyde’s is on the corner beside the Boone County Courthouse, you can’t miss it when you drive into town)

A new video of Blue Million from a few years back has been discovered on YouTube thanks to Stephen Beckner (he’s playing guitar on stage left, that’s Gary Cash on the other side on bass, and Andy Lewis on drums).  The song Trigger Man never made a cd, this is a great find–Chew Mail Pouch-Click Here

Aug 17, 2007  The cd, No Excuses, is still available from CD Baby.

Follow the Order A CD link over there (on the left side of this page)

Here is a link to a video of Alan playing at Taylor Books, thanks to THE GAZZ and Jessica Harrah – Click Here – Isn’t Taylor Books a great place to listen to live music, and I love the Street Scene that passes by the picture window behind the musicians.

Here is a review of Alan and the Cheapbeats, 230 2nd Ave.Click Here

Aug 13, 2007  Thanks Nick and Jessica for the picture.  If someone else has pictures, please forward via email or MySpace.

Aug 11, 2007  The MySpace Link has been updated, check it out.

Aug 7, 2007    Upcoming Blue Million Dates:

                              Clyde’s 19th Hole, Madison, on Aug. 24, 2007

Blues BBQ, beside the Clay Center, on Sept. 7, 2007

Taylor Books, 226 Capital St, Oct. 26, 2007

Taylor Books, 226 Capital St, Dec. 21, 2007

July 22, 2007  Blue Million played the first show with the new lineup on Friday during the 20th Annual Boone County WVU Alumni & Friends Golf Outing and Pig Roast.  The word on the street is that the show was a big success, as was the Pig Roast.  Alan’s amplified acoustic sound with overdriven leads and the “socket” slide work are new to Blue Million.  And new band member, Jay Hill, nailed it on his first gig, Andy was just as steady as ever – Wait till this line up has more than just a month of jam room time under their belt!!!!  Check out a picture from last year  Click Here

Web Master: If you were at the show, let me know what songs were the

                       highlight for you:  alansongsadm@suddenlink.net.

July 4, 2007    Blue Million has a new line up and is currently working hard on new songs and some “reworks” of songs you’ve heard before.  Keep checking back for the first show with the new lineup.
