The music started with Alan Griffith in
the basement on Jackson
Ave and then
the local bars in Madison and
Boone County, West
Virginia. Later, Alan's bands were ‘packin’ the place in Charleston and Morgantown – the proprietor’s loved the packed bars Alan’s bands
filled. There was, The News, The
Stanley Lewis Band, Off The Wall, Blue Million, Rainbirds, and Cheap
Beats. Blue
Million has reunited with the original
lineup and playing their brand of originals and blues. Alan has returned to his roots playin' the SG and Les Paul that filled the Madison
neighborhood with music during his teenage years - add new amps, a slide, a
harp, vocals, and a few years - now we have a musician's musician. The original Blue
Million lineup is back. Andy Lewis is on drums and Gary Cash on
bass. Gary played in local Madison bands then quickly joined Alan in The Stanley Lewis
Band. Andy joined the newly formed Blue Million line up
when Alan’s drummer from previous bands, Brian Meadows, moved to the Carolina’s. Alan , Andy, and Gary are “seasoned” musicians and if you
catch them LIVE or on their latest CD – you will agree.
-------------------------------------------------------------
The shows include a mix of the best of
American and British blues and Alan’s originals. The originals are about the Boone County culture that is all our own and the influences of the
blues greats. The originals cover the
sights, sounds,
and people who call Boone County home. They grow
out of memories of
love, broken hearts, happiness, hardships, coal mining, the
roads we travel, and the place we call home - Boone County.
Live music is what Blue Million does BEST.
You are going to hear a lot of originals and Robert Johnson, Bo Diddley, John Lee Hooker, and songs from British Blues
greats -- Cream, early Fleetwood Mac, Peter Green, and the Yardbirds. You are
likely to also hear the influences of contemporaries like The Stones, J. Geils Band, Bob Dylan, and Tom Waits. In a local bar - you may even hear some Rockin' Roadhouse dance music and a
rowdy crowd talkin' back to the band. For sure - expect to hear a three piece
band that has a tight, grooved, full sound honed with mileage in the jam room
and playing live music in smoky bars and coffee houses.
