NOVEMBER 2006
On what turned out to be a beautiful Carolina Autumn evening at Red Sail Park, over 100 Fishing Club members, guests and spouses enjoyed a robust program emphasizing libations, delicious food and even an auction. Many thanks to Wayne Massetti and his committee for putting this fabulous event together. We also owe a bit of gratitude to the many people who provided a full table of delectable hors d’oeuvres as well as an additional table filled with yummy deserts. The ladies from Moore’s BBQ provided excellent table fare consisting of pulled pork , fried chicken, green beans, cole slaw, baked beans and iced tea. An unexpected treat was in store for yours truly, who was presented a beautiful wall plaque from the membership as a token of appreciation. The award was unexpected, probably unwarranted, but greatly valued. After our unending feed, Elmer Stenzel auctioned off five fishing poles with reels that had been donated to our club by a local resident who was in the process of moving out of the harbour. The estimated value of these items was approximately half of the $148.50 they sold for which again proves that Elmer is one smooth fast talking huckster. Bob Costa is looking for people to help him put together our Christmas float for the December parade. Give Bob a call if you feel you can assist him in this deserving endeavor for our club. Dan Thallman and Patrick Neal report that they now have some 15 boats entered in the November 4th fishing tournament. Fishing will begin at any time your Captain decides and will end at a time that allows you and your catch to get to Dan Thallman’s house for the weigh in and a cookout consisting of burgers and dogs. Since all members are invited to attend the cookout whether they fish in the tourney or not, the club will pay for the food and drink and the entry fees for the boats will all go toward the prizes for the winning anglers. Our thanks also go to Donald Willis Jr. and Custom Marine Fabricators who provided us with a Fin-Nor rod and reel combo valued at $85 and a Tsunami surf rod valued at $50 plus many other tackle items for us to raffle off.. For you non-anglers; a rod is defined as a flexible, tapered stick that is the basic tool of angling. A rod of even medium length is awkward to carry, but experienced fishermen have found that rods can be easily shortened with an ordinary car door, trunk lid, tailgate or ceiling fan as A G Kessinger nearly demonstrated for us at the picnic. Our largest 50-50 raffle prize ever was won by Mary Ann Threlkeld along with the required notification letter to the IRS. The rod and reel was won by A G Kessinger and the surf rod was won by Elmer Stenzel. Our special guest for the evening was Northwest Creek Marina Dock Master, Bud Ellis, who performed the honors of drawing all the winning tickets as well as receiving one of our FHFC fishing hats for all the support he has given us throughout our three years of existence. Our other guest for the evening was Tony Gaudino, who is the new manager of the Lodge on the Green restaurant and Sports Page Lounge. Tony loves to fish and joined our club as well as signing up for the Nov. 4th fishing tournament. Our meetings are the first Wednesday of the month and are held at the Community Center commencing at 7:00pm. Please come join us as guests are always welcome.
