FHFC BEACON ARTICLE FOR JULY 2007

On an evening where we signed up six new members, Cap’t Harry Baldwin tantalized a large crowd of eager to learn anglers with many of his secret fishing spots in and around Fairfield  Harbour. Harry talked about the fantastic Striped Bass fishery that is going on in the shallows of the Neuse river. He showed a picture of his 35" 17 lb. beauty that he had landed over the weekend. Also in the audience were two of his recent charters that attested to some of the great fishing we are now experiencing. If that will just continue into our fishing date with the BBBS organization on Saturday June 9th, there will be some 30 smiling little faces and many good photos for them to share with their friends and family. We don’t want a tournament where the fish all get lockjaw.

Our meeting in July will be on the first THURSDAY of the month since the Fourth falls on the first Wednesday and we don’t want to interfere with picnics, fireworks and other family events of the day. Our speaker will be Phil Ambler from “Down the County” and he will be instructing us on Tarpon, Drum and Striper fishing. He will demonstrate many of the rigs he has used to be so successful when fishing the lower Neuse and  Pamlico rivers plus share some of his exciting videos.  Anyone is always welcome to come to our meetings and guests may become a member by paying the $10 annual membership fee. Please also note that our August meeting  will be on the first Thursday of the month (8/2) due to a POA meeting date that changed to our meeting date of the first Wednesday of the month. All meetings are held at our Community Center on Broad Creek road except our October “Pig Picin’” which is held each year at Red Sail Park.

Jerry Manfredi reported that FHFC vs.ECSWFC tournament is scheduled for Saturday August 25th commencing at 2:00 pm from Whitaker Creek Marina and ending back at the same site no later than 10:00 pm. Cost will be $25 per boat and an additional charge of $5 per angler. Only four rods per boat will be permitted. Call Jerry at 637-4251 if you have any questions.

The club thanked our 2nd Quarter Stewards, Larry Jones and Ed Threlkeld for the excellent job they did getting us through three very well attended events. Our Stewards for the 3RD Quarter will be Cap’t Ron MacLean and Harvey Pye. The 50-50 raffle was won by Jim Phillips.
