FHFC BEACON ARTICLE FOR MARCH 2008

Donald Willis Jr. was introduced to over 60 Fairfield Harbour Fishing Club members and guests at our February 6th meeting. The tremendous round of applause that he received was not only recognition for being an excellent annual speaker for us, but also for being a great supporter of ours. Custom Marine Fabrication has again agreed to be a major sponsor for “National Take a Kid Fishing Day” which will be held for a second year with the Big Brother Big Sister Organization of Eastern Carolina on Saturday, June 14. “Junior” made an excellent presentation on the three basic line types that local anglers currently use: Braid, Fluorocarbon and Monofilament. He talked of the many advantages of each depending on the type of fishing that one is planning to do. He also spoke about the new fishing tackle that has come out this year and left us with some of his samples for our 50-50 raffle at the end of our session.

Bob Costa announced that he is planning to host a Spring fishing outing and a picnic for after the event. Information as to the date and time will be announced and posted to our website as it becomes available. Laura Lindsay made a presentation on the Senior Pharmacy project and many of our members offered her their support. Larry Knapp, Co-Chair with Dan Thallman, announced that the first meeting for our BBBS “Take a Kid Fishing Day” will be held on March 26th. If you have a boat and want to participate as one of the hosts, get a hold of either Larry or Dan. We currently have five boats scheduled for our Ocracoke fishing trip on May 19 through May22. We have room for both more boats and anglers. Get a hold of Bob Bruggeworth if you’d like to be included.

Remember that there is no meeting scheduled for March. We are going to hold Spouse night on Monday evening, March 10th at Crabby Jack’s Restaurant. It promises to be an outstanding event and details are posted on our web site. Our speaker for our April 2nd meeting is scheduled to be the one and only, Captain Jimmy Price. If you’ve never seen Jimmy perform before, you will certainly be thrilled with his presentation. I urge everyone to attend and bring a guest. You can check on all our upcoming speakers by going on our website //pages.suddenlink.net/fhfc/ and clicking on Coming Events. Many thanks to our first quarter Stewards: Joe Jones, Jim Cline and Dan Thallman! Our Stewards for the second quarter commencing in April will be Ivor Elliker, Frank Pico and George Maravelas.  Terry Meier won the 50-50 raffle.

Still fishing is a technique usually characterized by a long stretch of time spent by an angler lying quietly, followed by a shorter period of time during which he lies noisily.   Anonymous
