Fishing Club

On the night after our country’s historic election where “change” won out significantly, the Fishing Club was privileged to enjoy another less significant change with the new owners of American Marine. Jean Wachter and Tracy Caroon spoke to us about their long tenure with this successful enterprise and their dedication to continue to service their customers as Paul Wachter, the former owner, had prior to his retirement. Tracy led an active discussion on proper boat winterizing techniques including a lengthy dissertation on ethanol additive fuels.
The meeting began with the Gus Villanova- produced DVD of the Fishing Club’s four-day trek to Ocracoke Island in May. The event featured cookouts, cocktail parties, fishing/boating trips and dining out at some of the local restaurants with everyone in aftendance.
The Fishing Club has been asked by the POA to provide a fish-cleaning table or two for the new Northwest Creek fishing pier. Eight members volunteered to work on this project, which we anticipate will be funded by the Club and completed prior to the end of the year.
The speaker for December will be Charter Captain Harry Baldwin. Harry will speak to us about the excellent fishing that we are anticipating in and around the Harbour during the winter months. If you want to learn how to fish our local waters, I recommend that you don’t miss this meeting. We would like to welcome these new members: Dennis Treubert, Henry Heath, Dick Berkshire, Bill Prem and Allan Springer. Be sure to check out our web site at //pages. suddenlink.net/fhfc/. The 50-50 rafie was won by Joe Baran. The tool kit donated by West Marine was won by Bob Bruggeworth.

Gene DuPree and John Hoppe kept 17 black sea bass from 1-1/2 to 3 lbs. out of an approx total of 70 fish caught on Gus V’s boat on November 1. The catch included spot tailed pin fish, gag grouper, sandbar sea bass, hog fish and sharks.

Deborah Swan and Art Thinguldstad caught these red drum on a chartered fishing outing in the Neuse River on September 20.
