Fishing Club
It’s official.
The Fairfield Harbour Fishing Club’s annual Spouses’ Night is scheduled for
Monday, April 6, at Hurricane with Chef Chris doing the honors. Cocktails
and hors d’oeuvres will be served at 6 pm followed by dinner at 7. Music
will be provided by Margaret Rose and John Mitchell. Spouses’ Night is a
wonderful evening when the anglers honor their spouses by serving a dinner
where all the work but the cooking is performed by the membership. This
includes decorating, serving appetizers and cleaning up.
Committee chairman Jim Cline announced that this year’s Big Brother Big
Sister Take-a-Kid Fishing Day will be held Saturday, June 6, with a kickoff
breakfast for participants at 7:30 am in the Community Center and a Pig
Pickin’ at Red Sail Park following the morning of fishing. Jim is still
looking for more boat captains. Contact Dan Thallman if you’d like to enjoy
the day with some kids. Each boat will be assigned at least one “Big” and
one “Little” with the larger boats getting two of each. If you don’t have a
boat, please volunteer to be a mate and help with the baiting of hooks, etc.
The speaker for the evening in February was Captain Stephen Draughon, who
charters his 52-foot Bill Collector, docked in Morehead City. Two six-member
groups are booked with Stephen, April 27 and 29, for yellowfin tuna action.
Steve Dauerbach is putting together a third group so call him if interested.
Stephen talked about this winter’s giant bluettn fishery. In addition, he
answered a multitude of questions about offshore fishing. The speaker for
March 4 will be Capt. Terrell Gould whose headboat, Carolina Princess, docks
just a few slips away from the Bill Collector.
The Club voted to let Wayne Smith pursue obtaining a Club banner for our
many events if we can keep the cost below $160. Welcome new member, Charles
Saraceno. The 50-50 raffie was won by Larry Knapp.

may be in Florida, but that doesn’t mean he isn’t catching speckled
trout. Witness this 24-inch beauty.
These
citation fish, two of the many big red drum caught by FHFC members, were
landed by Bob Bruggeworth and Larry Knapp on the lower Neuse River.
