Over 70
anglers and guests attended our March 4 meeting to hear Cap’t
Terrell Gould of the Carolina Princess speak about the frustrations
of being a headboat captain in recent years. Terrell told some
interesting stories involving his years of being a charter boat
owner prior his purchasing the Princess in ‘06. Larry Jones and
George Maravelas passed around a sign-up sheet for a future
excursion with Cap’t Terrell. Twenty-five anglers announced
interest, which puts us half way home to taking over the entire
boat. If anyone is interested, please contact either George or Larry
so they can make it happen.
Our Spouse’s Night will be held at the Hurricane restaurant at
Northwest Creek Marina Monday night, April 6. All money and main
course selections must be given to either Gus Villanova or Harvey
Pye by noon on March 31. The first 55 couples can be accommodated.
There will be a Spouse’s Night Committee meeting following our next
regularly scheduled meeting April 1.
Take-a-Kid Fishing Chairman Jim Cline reported that things are well
underway for another successful fishing experience for some 30 kids
and their Big Brothers and Big Sisters. Dan Thallman is looking for
more boat captains and mates to participate. Wayne Smith displayed
the new Fishing Club banner, which will be on display during many of
our upcoming get-togethers.
Jerry Manfredi will again be our club’s coordinator for this year’s
Red Drum Challenge, which will be hosted by the newly formed Lower
Neuse Anglers Fishing Club in Oriental. Our club won the first
tourney in ‘07, while the Eastern NC Club in New Bern won in ‘08.
Our Stewards for the 1st quarter, Gil Bowsher and Lucky Covati, got
a nice round of applause for their efforts. Stewards for the 2nd
quarter will be A. G. Kessinger and Bob Smith. Joe Baran won the
50-50 raffle.
On
February 28, Wayne Massetti caught this citation sized 5-pound
25-inch speckled trout off his dock using a mirror lure.
