Fishing Club
On a night when
Fishing Club members were thinking more about a member in a Hillsborough,
NC, hospice than the meeting, somehow the show went on. The rather meager
attendance probably reflected the mixed emotions.
The speaker was Capt. Jerry Dilsaver, a
prominently found in
North Carolina Sportsman. Jerry talked primarily about cobia fishing and
unlike most speakers, openly discussed exact locations and baits to use.
Jerry also gave us some useful tips on how to properly fish MirrOLures. His
lengthy presentation proved to be one of the most informative sessions ever.
Ivor Elliker volunteered to lead up an effort to participate in Neuse River
Day, which will be held at Union Point Park, 9 am to 5 pm, Saturday, May 30.
We will set up the Big Brother Big Sister tent and work with them to promote
not only their organization but also the Neuse River Foundation. We hope to
interest as many children as possible in the art of fishing and plan to have
some instructional sessions throughout the day. Eight members signed up to
work on this project. Any others interested in the endeavor can contact Ivor,
Bob Bruggeworth or Larry Knapp.
Jim Cline reported that great progress is being made on our June 6 BBBS
Take-a-Kid Fishing Day. The committee next meets in the POA Board room, 10
am, Friday, May 1. If any additional members feel they can help, either
contact Jim or show up at the meeting.
The speaker for the May 6 meeting will be Donald Willis, Jr. from Custom
Marine Fabrication on Rt. 70, New Bern. He will talk about new equipment he
has received, as well as the proper techniques to utilize them effectively.
The June speaker will be Dr. Bogus, who many listen to regularly on 107.1
FM, 7:30 am, each Monday on “Ask Dr. Bogus.” Charlie Denman won the 50-50
raffle.
