February
Meeting
|
|

Our next fishing club meeting will be
on Wednesday evening at 7:00PM at our Community Center.
Our speakers will be Cap't Scott Wood, who operates
Driftwood Charters, has 37 years experience fishing the
Neuse and other local tribs. He fishes with Berry Bender
and
Team Redneb on a frequent basis and is a striped
bass, speckled trout and red drum specialist. Berry will
also join him at our meeting. Ed Wall's column last
Friday in the Sun Journal featured Scott and mentioned
some of his methods used to catch
coldwater stripers. A very timely subject for us as we
go through these winter months. Hope to see you all
there. If you haven't paid your 2012 $10 dues as yet,
bring a check maid out to FHFC to the meeting.
Cheers, Bob

Evelyn Garey caught this citation
Red Drum fishing with
Gary
Dubiel. She willingly admitted that her Dad, club
member Tate Garey, "helped" her a little with the
reeling. They were fishing with Tate's wife, Jennifer,
and son, Grant. Since there were four family members,
Gary Dubiel arranged for four fish to be caught.

Jim Rowan, Dennis Treubert, Larry Knapp, and Bob Prather
fished on Bob's Down Time along Shackelford. They
kept ten Bluefish and three Spanish Mackerel. They threw
a number of short (twelve inches or less) Bluefish

Larry and Betty Knapp
recently fished with Captain Doug Rowe and his mate Greg
on his 40 foot Hatteras,
Fish Rowe, out of Georgetown, Great Exuma.

Larry with one of what Captain Doug
likes to call the "rare, elusive Island Trout."
Most people call them barracuda. Captain Doug is
pictured below holding the Wahoo Betty brought to the
boat after a good twenty minute fight. The Capt.
estimated it at around 80 pounds. He prepared steaks and
some pieces suitable for sushi which was later prepared
at the hotel.

There's

Amberjack!
|
Bob Bruggeworth, Joey Freeman, Larry Knapp, Wayne
Massetti, Harvey Pye and Dan Thallman fished with
Captain Stephen Draughon and his
mate, Wade on
the Bill Collector Friday, April 30. They drew
numbers to determine the order and going through
the cycle they all had fish, sometimes more than one at
a time. The highlight was a fifteen minute battle by
Harvey Pye to land a 56 pound amberjack on light tackle.
That's well over
the 50 pound requirement for a North Carolina citation!
The sole mahi-mahi was caught by Larry Knapp.
