It is possible that he may been born in Conn. He moved to and resided in Steuben Co.,N.Y. in 1815. He married Clarissa Stephens and had a family of eight children. He died on August 14, 1871.

I know that my (Cummings) family came from Scotland and located in the Morgantown/Clarksburg,WV areas then to the Charleston,WV area. They were involved in the coal mining business--My great-grandfather(James Cummings) owned a mine in the Clarksburg area and then in the Oak Hill area. He and his wife(Marie) brought 3 sons from Scotland with them (Uncles James and Mickey and my grandfather Joseph)had a daughter here (Aunt Violet-Marie). After my great-grandmother (Marie) died my great-grandfather (James--we called him "little grandpa" because is was short and very colorful) he re-married (Mae Lindburger) and had another daughter (Aunt Becky). My grandfather was Alexander Robt Preston JESSEE and his mother was Eunice Monroe HABERN/HAYBORN. I have not been able to document her family, but once saw Hayborns listed as living near a Gen. PRESTON and I think it might have been Wise Co VA.
