About Tom and Nanc

Tom and Nanc created Giusti's Enterprising Art in 1984. In the beginning Tom made Gyotaku (fish rubbings) and Nancy made large Raku pottery. Over the years the Raku Pottery dominated the business and now Tom and Nancy work as a team, with Nancy's ability to draw and Tom's technical ability to create new shapes for Nancy's wildlife creations, they have created some bright, stunning and refined images to be used on the usually rough and primitive Raku pottery. They find continuity in the control of the forms with Nancy's drawings and the spontaneity of the glazes reaction in the Raku fire.

The Pottery they produce is designed and created strictly for non functional purpose and must never be used for food, drink or any other possible eating service. One should take great care in the display and cleaning of the work, as it is a delicate art form with sensitive surfaces. The copper base glaze is an ever changing contrast surface and it will take on the environment to which it is exposed.

Tom studied Gyotaku (Fish Rubbings) at Humboldt State University and pottery at Collage of the Redwoods. Tom is a life time member the the Nature Printing Society. He loves to fish, his boat the Riptide is named after their first Bernese Mountain Dog, Blackcoral's Duke of Riptide.

Nancy's education includes a B.A. in Art and Secondary teaching certificate for Art/Science/History from University of Nevada, and a B.S. in General Biological Sciences from Oregon State University. Nancy was a teacher for the Peace Corps in Ghana, where she acquired greater influence and appreciation for the creation of primitive pottery which has led her into this art form. Nancy likes to ride her pink bike and rides on Team Smith for an annual week long bike ride. Known for riding slow she is called the Tortiose.

Both Tom and Nanc love their Bernese Mountain Dogs, Charlie and Miss Breeze. They belong to a number of Bernese Mountain Dog Clubs and create Custom Raku pieces to raise money for Health Research and Rescue . These Custom plaque are sold only on the Camp Giusti Riptide Bernese Mountain Dog Web Site, keeping Duke's memory alive.
