Newsletter - December 2000
December 10: Dr.
Schulmans sermon will be on "What is
Christmas." His notes on this topic tell us that the
Christmas story is rich in meaning, with many messages.
We will look at a few of them. Christmas reminds us that
amid all our technology and learning, there are other
demands on our spirits. December 23: Annual Christmas Party: Well have a potluck supper at 6 p.m. at Kelley and Anne Siglers home at 1321 Greenbriar Drive. This is always a happy time for our congregation, so please come and share the joys of the holiday season. December 24: There will be no service on this Sunday. KUDOS: To Ann Staples for drawing a flaming chalice logo for our Fellowship. We hope to use this on our name-tags, stationery, newsletters, etc. Also, to Glenn and Kathy Payne for the excellent performance of "Love Letters" for the Community Theater. Websites: Dont forget to look into our website at www.totalzone.com/~kkrock. It changes frequently and the color and music will give your spirits a boost. But, if youre looking for an argument, you can go to an anti-UU website that I found recently. It is a forum for people who are mad at us for one reason or another. When I left the site, I was relieved that we were a small fellowship, who could do "our own thing," without having to get so involved in the politics of a large church. Log-on and see what you think. The address is: http://www.left-bank.org/antiuu/index.html. Videos: Kelley Sigler has the complete set of Bill Moyers program "On Our On Terms." This explores issues around dying in the United States. The tapes are 5 hours long and so cover every aspect of death and dying in our society. If you would like to borrow this series, call Kelley at 295-8810. Siglers also have a tape of a sermon given to the congregation of the UU Church of Las Cruces, NM. The sermon is by Michelle Giger, a member of an national organization called, "Murder Victims Families for Reconciliation." This group opposes the death penalty. Her sermon in Las Cruces is about 20 minutes long and provides more insight into the arguments for and against the death penalty in our country. Call 295-8810 if youd like to borrow this tape. Ladies Who Lunch: How about it, UU Ladies? Shall we meet for lunch at the Elkins Lake Putter Parlour on Wednesday, January 10, 2001 at noon? Well have lunch, and conversation. Perhaps well decide to do this once a month. Several of the UU women have suggested we get together, so lets try it on Wednesday, January 10th! If you cant make it on that day, but are interested in getting this group going, call Roberta Krock at 295-2178 Anne Sigler |
