February 7th: Our new Women's
Spirituality Group will meet from 9:30-11:30 a.m. on
this Wednesday. We'll meet at Brenda Barr's home at 611
Rolling Hills Drive in Elkins Lake. Directions to
Brenda's house: Turn Right on Cherry Hills; Turn Right on
Broadmoor; Turn Left on River Oaks; Turn Right on Rolling
Hills. Rolling Hills is a small cul-de-sac. Brenda's is
the 2nd house on the right. Sign in the front yard reads:
"Grammy's House. Grandchildren spoiled here."
We will all be spoiled with coffee, doughnuts and
spirited spiritual discussion, so be sure to attend this
gathering. The Spirituality Group hopes to meet once a month and plans a Sat. a.m. meeting to accommodate those who cannot get away during the week. Please call Gail Phillips at 439-8569 if you have some input into how these meetings could be successful. February 11th: This Sunday, Dr. Schulman's sermon has a very provocative title, "But What Will Mrs. Grundy Say?" In a 1798 play by Thomas Morton, Mrs. Grundy was a character who observed all the proprieties and saw to it that everyone else did too. Even today, if we want to do something unusual, we ask, "What will people think?" We wonder if manners have gone out of style? Are they too restrictive? There ought to be lively discussion on this topic! February 14th: The UU women will meet again for lunch at noon in the Putter Parlour at Elkins Lake. We had a happy first meeting on January 10th. There were 12 women who enjoyed having the time to talk with old friends and make new ones. Please call Anne Sigler at 295-8810 if you plan to come to this Wednesday, February 14th meeting. It helps to give a count to the chef the day before we lunch, but if you forget, come on anyway. It doesn't have to be that close a tabulation. February 25th: This Sunday our speakers will be Vicky Keller, President and Diane Romer, Vice-President of the Greater Houston Area Chapter for the Million Mom March. They will talk to us about the goals of the Million Mom March, about current legislation before the Texas Legislature, and about how we can establish a MMM Chapter in Huntsville. This is a controversial topic in Huntsville, so we hope to have a good turnout to hear these women and voice your opinions to them. Other UU News: Southwest UU Women are having a retreat February 9-11th. The retreat has a great title and will be held in beautiful place. It is called, "Women in Their Natural State," and will be at the 4-H Camp and Conference Center just outside of Little Rock, Arkansas. In addition to workshops, there is a Ropes Course, half-day or full-day, dancing to a Meshugga! Klezmer Band (Meshugga means "crazy" in Yiddish), and a Fire Ritual. Please contact Roberta Krock, Beth Williamson, or Anne Sigler for more information. We have a newsletter outlining all the programs and facilities available. Or, contact Linda Van Blaricom, the conference convener at lvbuuAjuno.com or 501 225-8294. If you would like to receive a newsletter from the Southwest Women in Religion, please contact Connie Dunn at connie_dunn@hotmail.com. Mardi Gras in New Orleans: Many N.O.
