Sunday, March 11: Dr. Frank Schulman’s sermon for this Sunday will be "The Faces of God." In his notes about this topic, Dr. Schulman writes, "Jacob wrestled with the angel at Peniel and when the contest was over he said, ‘For I have seen God face to face.’ I, too, have seen God face to face, many times. Let me tell you about some of the faces of God that I have seen."

After the sermon, Dr. Schulman will conduct the Right Hand of Fellowship, a brief service to recognize and to extend a formal welcome to those who have joined our Fellowship in the past year. If you have not yet signed the membership book but would like to do so before this Sunday service, please call Ken at 936-295-2178 or Dr. Schulman at 281-362-8226.

Sunday, March 25: We are again fortunate to have a guest speaker from SHSU. Dr. Julie Hall of the English Department will be talking to us about Sophia Hawthorne.

UU Women:
Wed, Mar 7, 6:30-8:30 p.m. : The Women’s Sharing Circle will meet at the home of Gail Phillips at 74 Armadillo Drive. Please bring an item which is a symbol of who you are to share with the group.

Directions to Gail’s: Go north on Highway 247 to 980, which veers off to the right. Continue north on 980. When you pass Forest Lawn cemetery on the right, slow down and take the next road you can turn right on. It is Armadillo Drive (also a Christmas tree sign there); just follow it around until you come to Gail’s house, 2nd one on right past Mike Beth Circle. Phone 438-8569.

Wed, Mar 14, 12 noon: The UU Women will again meet for lunch at the Putter Parlour in Elkins Lake. Ten women attended a style show on this date a month ago. This time we will have more opportunity to talk. We may want to discuss whether we want to follow up on some of the suggestions by our speakers this past Sunday from the Million Mom March.

Letters: St. Paul United Methodist Church has written us asking for donations for their Summer College Tour for the community’s young people who are interested in visiting Howard University, Fisk University, and Morgan State University.

Gun Safety: Our February 25th guest speakers, the president and vice president of the Greater Houston Area Million Mom March, told us about three bills currently before the Texas Legislature.

H.B.404 by Debra Danburg would prohibit any person at a gun show from completing the sale of a gun without complying with the national instant criminal background check system. This bill is now in the House Committee on Criminal Jurisprudence.

S.B. 88 by Rodney Ellis would prohibit any gun dealer from selling, renting, leasing, loaning, or giving a firearm without a lock or similar device intended to prevent the accidental discharge of the firearm. This bill is currently in the Senate Committee on Criminal Justice.

S.B. 199 by Royce West would prohibit the possession of a firearm by an individual convicted of or otherwise found to have committed family violence. This bill passed the Senate on 2/22 and was referred to the House Committee on Criminal Jurisprudence on 2/27.
