| Wednesday, August 1: The Women's Sharing Circle will meet
from 9:30-11:30 a.m. at the Fire Station at 2109 Sam Houston Avenue. The topic
		is favorite books.
		  In September
of 1997, author and newspaper columnist Jacquelyn Mitchard
published a list of the ten most influential books in her life. A month later
she listed the top ten books from those suggested by her readers. Recently a
writers' group from the University of Pennsylvania began compiling a list of
favorite books. That list is very different from the better-known books on
Mitchard’s lists. We’ll take a look at these lists and then create our own.
Before you come, think of what books/readings have been most significant,
thought provoking, or just enjoyable. We will go around the circle with each
giving the name of one selection and a brief statement of its subject matter
or value. We will continue around the circle as many times as we can until
11:00. Roberta Krock, the discussion leader for this meeting, will compile
our list and distribute it at the next meeting.
	Wednesday, August 8:
The UU Women’s group is participating in the
second meeting of the Red Hat Society, an organization
for post-menopausal women which has a tradition of wearing red hats
and purple dresses. The society rules are [1] there are no rules, and
[2] there is no purpose or responsibility for the group.
Convener is JoAnn Harper. The meeting is at noon at Cinco de Mayo.
Please call JoAnn at 291-0922 if you plan to come to this
		Wednesday, August 8 meeting.
Sunday, August 12, 10:30 a.m., Laura Chapel at HMH
Dr. Frank Schulman's topic is "Beliefs held by all World Religions."
Dr. Shulman says: "One of the positive developments of recent years is the
interest in world religions. There is a glorious variety of practice and belief.
From studying them we learn that there are important beliefs held in common by
them all. There are at least four beliefs basic to all world religions."
