Huntsville UU Services

Sunday, September 9, 10:30 a.m., Laura Chapel at HMH

Dr. Frank Schulman's topic is "Sources of Strength."
Dr. Shulman says: "Life is hard. We often feel beaten back by the
turmoil that attacks us. A wise person recognizes the need to develop
strength. We have such sources available to use. The sermon will list four
		such sources."

Sunday, September 23, 10:30 a.m., Laura Chapel at HMH

Our guest speaker will be Ken Crowley, who has recently returned from a nine-
day trip to Colombia with a Witness For Peace/School of the Americas Watch
Delegation. He is speaking about the US role in the continuing violence and
the nonviolent resisters of Colombia, many of whom risk their lives daily in
an effort to establish human rights. The US has appropriated almost $2
billion in mostly military aid to Colombia in the last two years as part of
an anti-narcotics program. This effort has resulted in an increase in
violence and human rights abuses against civilians with no reduction in drug
exports to the US. Several groups, including the Rand think tank, have
recently recommended that the effort in Colombia be refocused as
counterinsurgency rather than anti-narcotics and that military aid should be
increased. We have a choice of supporting the US funding of a violent civil
war, or redirecting our aid toward the promotion of peace. The human rights
of millions of Colombians will be affected by our decision.

We received an e-mail from The Reverend Richard Allen, who has retired after
serving UU churches in Honolulu, Oklahoma City, and Pasadena and Carmel, California.
He and his wife are delightful people and we really enjoyed knowing them when they
were in the Southwest District. He wants to share his sermons, and he is an excellent
preacher! A book of his sermons and CDs of his preaching are available on his website:
