Huntsville UU Services

Sunday, March 10, 10:30 AM, Laura Chapel at HMH

Dr. Schulman will be speaking both Sundays in March,
having spent part of February in India. Dr. Schulman's sermon topic for March 10
is "The Parables of Jesus." Dr. Schulman says: "This is the season of Lent,
traditionally a time to reflect on the teachings of Jesus. We have a rich resource
of them in his parables. They are not random ideas. There are themes running through
them. Though they date back 2,000 years there are lessons just as applicable today.
From them we learn Jesus' beliefs about God, duty, human nature, good and evil."

Ancient Reading: Luke 10: 25-37

Modern Reading: "The Church in Modern Society" by William Jewett Tucker

Sunday, March 24 (Palm Sunday):

Dr. Schulman's sermon topic will be "Lessons of Easter." Dr. Schulman says:
"The resurrection story is perplexing. Dead people just don't rise out of graves.
Yet people told the story and people believed it then and many believe it now.
There are lots of resurrection stories in the Bible, not just the one about Jesus.
Let's see why people believed in the resurrection and what, if anything, there is to it."

Ancient Reading: Matthew 28: 1-10

Modern Reading: "Great Hopes for Great Souls" by James Martineau
