Huntsville UU Services

Sunday, October 13, 10:30 AM, Laura Chapel at HMH:

Dr. Schulman's sermon topic is "Are We Christians?"

Note about the sermon: Since Christianity began, people have argued over what
it means to be a Christian. There were quarrels even among the disciples. The
disputes haven't stopped since then. It isn't likely this sermon will settle
much, either. Still, the question is important. We are in the liberal
tradition. We welcome people of good will and we do not inquire about labels.
But let's see what our relation to Christianity is--or what it ought to be.

Ancient Reading: Matthew 5: 1-12

Modern Reading: "The Bond of the Universal Church," by William Ellery Channing
ATTENTION! Immediately after the Sunday service on October 13, we will go to
the home of Herb and Billye Muecke for a potluck lunch. Please bring any of
the following to share: main dish, salad, dessert. Herb and Billye live at
125 Hickory in Forrest Hills.
Sunday, October 24, 10:30 AM, Laura Chapel at HMH:

deForest Ralph will speak will be our guest speaker. His topic will be the partner
church program in which we plan to participate. We will help to support a
church which Dr. Schulman has visited in Europe.

New Book
Meadville Lombard Theological School has published a book
Dr. Schulman wrote: James Martineau--This Conscience-Stricken Unitarian. It is an
analysis of his theory of worship and his theology. Martineau was an
outstanding English theologian and philosopher, and Unitarian minister, sadly
neglected by modern Unitarians.
