Member Paul Isham, who is city attorney for Huntsville, will speak on local government
	and issues concerning Huntsville.

Sunday, November 24, 10:30 AM, Laura Chapel at HMH:

Dr. Frank Schulman is preaching. His sermon title is
"Thanksgiving–Its Origin and Meaning." He reminds us: "Thanksgiving probably
is the oldest religious custom we have. It's the one national holiday that is
religious. So deep is it in our national consciousness that all Americans,
of whatever belief, can worship together without any strain. So on this
Sunday before Thanksgiving let's think about what it really means to us."

Ancient Reading: Psalm 8

Modern Reading: "The Revelations of God," by the Rev. John Robinson, in a farewell sermon
to the Pilgrims, who were members of his congregation, as they set sail for America on July 11, 1620.

	UU Book Club

On Sunday evening, November 17, the UU Book Club will meet at 6:00 PM at
the home of Karl and Melissa Mahaffey on FM 247.
Beth Williamson will review a book by Unitarian
philosopher Charles Hartshorne called Omnipotence and Other Theological
Mistakes, State University of New York, Albany, 1984. A handout of the
chapter on six common mistakes about God [49 pages] will be available at the
women's meeting and at church on November 13.
	 Hartshorne taught at the
University of Chicago and later at the University of Texas. He lived to be
104 and was a popular speaker in our churches. Other fascinating topics in
this book include a chapter on creation through evolution, on the moral
argument against heaven and hell, on why there is human wickedness, and on
nuclear arms. Hartshorne says, "In writing this book I have tried to avoid
needless technicalities and professional paraphernalia in order to
communicate with a wider circle of readers. . . . I am not a fundamentalist in
religion. I definitely believe in God and in love for fellow creatures as
	valuable and important."

For the next book club meeting in January, we need a volunteer to review a
book [non-fiction] and a volunteer to be host or hostess. Please email Beth betwil@aol.com
or call 295-3170 if you would like to review a book or
	invite us to your house.
