Huntsville UU Services
Sunday, December 8, 10:30 AM, Laura Chapel at HMH:
Dr. Frank Schulman is preaching. His sermon title is "Which World Would You rather live in?" In his notes about the sermon, Dr. Schulman says: "Christmas is more than a time to celebrate, more than a time for office parties and eggnog. It is more even than a time for religious renewal. Christmas confronts us with a choice, a choice we shun most of the year in the press of more urgent matters. The choice we must make at Christmas is, which of two worlds would you rather live in? Put differently, what kind of person do you want to be?"
Ancient Reading: Matthew 4: 1-11
Modern Reading: from The Discourses by Epictetus

UU Christmas Party
the annual Christmas potluck will be held immediately after church on December 8 at the home of Anne & Kelley Sigler, 1321 Greenbriar in Elkins Lake. Please plan to attend and bring food to share.

Directions to the Sigler home: Go south on the west feeder road of I-45 until you get to Elkins Lake. Turn right into Elkins Lake. You are on Augusta. Greenbriar is the first street to the left.

Sunday, December 22, 10:30 AM, Laura Chapel at HMH:
The service this Sunday will be an informal gathering to sing Christmas carols.

Huntsville UU Women
Tuesday, December 3:
The UU Women will join the Red Hat Society at 1:00 PM for their Christmas luncheon at the Elkins Lake Dining Room.

Wednesday, December 4:
The Women's Sharing Circle will meet at 1:00 PM at the home of Gail Phillips, 74 Armadillo Drive. Gail will lead us in a ritual called "From Darkness Comes the Light," a celebration of the Winter Solstice. All interested women are invited to the Winter Solstice celebration at Gail Phillips' house on Dec. 4 at 1 p.m., not just members of the Sharing Circle. If you would like a preparation guide, call Gail at 438-8569, and she will mail you one.

Directions to Gail's house: Take Highway 247 N (also Avenue M) until 980 veers off to the right. Take 980 past the Forest Lawn Cemetery on the right. Turn R on Armadillo Drive (where Christmas tree farm sign is) and follow around until number 74, the second house past Mike Beth Circle. Attendees may wish to park at the Park and Ride lot on the northeast side of 980 where it crosses FM 2821 and carpool to Gail's house.

Attention UU Women: would the UU Women like to attend the Huntsville Newcomers Club's Annual Fashion Show and Luncheon? It will be held February 12th. Last year the cost was $9.50 I believe. Please call Anne Sigler at 295-8810 if you are interested.

UU Book Club
On Sunday evening, January 19, the UU Book Club will meet at 6:00 PM at the home of Paul and Anne Isham. Anne Sigler and Anne Isham will review Nickel and Dimed by Barbara Ehrenreich and Small Wonder by Barbara Kingsolver.

Travel Club Forming:
Len and LaDell Alexander, recently retired from SW Bell, have asked us to help them form a travel club. This will be a low-key club of people who want to learn travel tips and places to go from each other. There will be no dues. We'll meet in homes or restaurants. If anyone is interested, please contact Anne Sigler at 295-8810.
