Huntsville UU Services
During the summer months of June, July, and August, services are held only on the 2nd Sunday of each month.

Best wishes for a wonderful vacation to Frank and Alice Schulman, our minister and his wife, who are off to their home in Rhode Island for the summer. Dr. Schulman will return to the pulpit for regular services in September.

Sun. July 10: Speaking on "Creativity: What Makes It Flourish," will be Lucia Bettler, who owns Lucia's Garden, an independent bookstore and garden shop in Houston. She will talk about her mission statement and how she serves her community of gardeners and growth seekers by teaching classes that help individuals "flourish." She frequently leads the Sunday service at Unitarian churches in Houston. Her talk will include her belief and activism in the Peace Movement.

Huntsville UU Women
Wed. July 6: The UU Women's Sharing Circle will not meet in July.

Wed. July 13: The UU Women will join the Red Hat Society for lunch at 11:00 at the Farm House Cafe. Reservations are necessary and must be made with Carol Flack by July 10th.

Wed. Aug 3: Mark your calendar now for the August 3 meeting, which will be a planning meeting at Carla McAdam's house. A program on identifying your personality type (complete with a self-quiz profile) will follow.

Thanks
Kudos to Ted and Jean Back for hosting the annual church picnic at their home on June 11. About thirty members and friends of our fellowship enjoyed their hospitality and, as usual, a fantastic pitch-in dinner.

Circle Dinners
Membership Chair Joan Stringer reports: "As you all know, the Circle Dinners were to start in July. Bad choice of timing on my part. It's hot and folks are busy with travels and ongoing company. There haven't been enough folks sign up for participation so there will be a different approach for social activities. The newly married Johnsons have graciously agreed to host a congregational picnic in October. Hopefully, the weather will cooperate and give us sunny days with cool breezes by then."

July Food For Thought
What does it mean to be patriotic?

Patriots can love their own country and the rest of the world all at the same time. Indeed, one of the most patriotic songs that I know is "This Is My Song," #159 in the Unitarian-Universalist hymnal. The second verse states:

My countryıs skies are bluer than the ocean, and sunlight beams on cloverleaf and pine; but other lands have sunlight too, and clover, and skies are everywhere as blue as mine. Oh hear my song, thou God of all the nations, a song of peace for their land and for mine.

For me, this is true patriotism.
