Huntsville UU Services
Huntsville Memorial Hospital. In September, services will return to the regular schedule of meeting on the 2nd and 4th Sundays of each month at 10:30 a.m. in the Laura Chapel of Huntsville Memorial Hospital. Visitors are always welcome. For more information, call 295-3170.

Sun. Sept. 10: Terry M. Thibodeaux, a professor in Speech Communications at SHSU and former Dean of Humanities and Social Science, will speak on Cajun culture and language.

Sun. Sept. 24: The Rev. Tom Capo returns to the pulpit as our regular 4th Sunday minister. His sermon topic this month is "Forgiveness is a Rough Road." Forgiveness is a difficult process; one not easily trod by the faint of heart. Rev. Capo will share his personal process of forgiveness, and how he emerged from it a changed person.

Huntsville UU Women
Wed. Sept. 6: The Women’s Sharing Circle will meet at 10:30 a.m. at the home of Roberta Krock to continue their study based on the book Simple Steps, a guide to getting control of your life. Beth Williamson will lead the discussion of Chapter 4.

Annual UU Church Picnic Planned for September 30
Come and enjoy the company of other UUs at an old-fashioned church picnic on Saturday evening, September 30th at 5:00 p.m.

We've chosen the last Saturday evening in September for its promise of perfect picnic weather. Bring your portable lawn chairs, and we’ll sit on the deck and visit while we watch the sun set on Elkins Lake. (You can even fish if you bring your own pole.)

We’ll enjoy a pitch-in dinner, so please bring your favorite covered dish and the recipe too if you are willing to share it. There will be a prize for the "best" dish which is "most like your grandma used to make" (if we can agree on it).

And we will have old-fashioned homemade ice cream, for what would a church picnic be without it? (PS: We need another ice cream maker. Is there a volunteer out there? Please let Gail know at 438-8569)

Your host will provide table service, coffee, tea, and soft drinks. If you’d like something harder, please feel free to bring it.

"We look forward to seeing you all on September 30th!"

Is Anyone Interested in an On-Going Dinner Discussion Group?
Many UUers participate in dinner discussion groups, which are wonderful opportunities to get to know others in your congregation better. How do they work?

You don’t need a lot of people--in fact, from eight to twelve is a good number. Once a month a member of the group hosts a pitch-in dinner and introduces the topic for discussion that evening. And, of course, hosts and hostesses rotate so that everyone takes a turn. (No meetings during the summer, and smaller groups might meet every other month.)

Topics or themes for discussion come from the group. The one I enjoyed the most in our last church was called "Topics in Variety," which gave the host a lot of possibilities to choose from. Most groups meet on a Saturday or Sunday evening from about 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. If group members are not really interested in cooking, a Dessert Discussion group would work instead with each hostess providing coffee and a dessert when it is her turn.

If you are interested, please let our hospitality coordinator, Anne Sigler, know. Her telephone number is 295-8810. When we get a list of at least eight interested people, we’ll start a group.

Report From the By-Law Review Committee
The Board has approved the draft presented by the By-Law Review Committee. The proposed by-laws have been sent to all members by e-mail or snail mail. Copies of the old by-laws will be available at our church picnic on September 30. At that time, we will determine whether or not to adopt the suggested changes.

Huntsville UU Newsletter Deadline: To submit news to the UU newsletter, e-mail Gail Phillips. Please have any news or announcements that you would like to have in this newsletter to the editor by the 20th of each month.
