Newsletter - December 2007

And the Grinch, with his Grinch-feet ice cold in the snow, stood puzzling and puzzling, how could it be so? It came without ribbons. It came without tags. It came without packages, boxes or bags. And he puzzled and puzzled 'till his puzzler was sore. Then the Grinch thought of something he hadn't before. What if Christmas, he thought, doesn't come from a store. What if Christmas, perhaps, means a little bit more.
--Dr. Seuss

Huntsville UU Services
Services are held on the 2nd and 4th Sundays of each month at 10:30 a.m. in the Laura Chapel of Huntsville Memorial Hospital. Visitors are always welcome. For more information, call 295-3170.

Please come at 10:00 for coffee and conversation before the service. Coffee will not be served after the service. Post-service conversation will continue over lunch.

Sun. December 9: One of our members, Carol Turner, will be our speaker. She will be talking about Bioneers, an organization to which she and her husband, Roy, belong. Bioneers is a forum for connecting the environment, health, social justice, and spirit within a broad progressive framework. Bioneers was conceived to conduct programs in the conservation of biological and cultural diversity, traditional farming practices, and environmental restoration. Roy and Carol went to a Bioneers meeting in California recently.

Immediately after our church service on December 9th, if there is a quorum, there will be a vote taken to accept the land being offered to the fellowship on East Mosley Lane. If we accept the land and do not build on it within five years, the land will revert to the donors.

Sun. December 23: Due to the Christmas Holidays we will not be having a service on this day. We hope that everyone will relax and enjoy time with their friends and family

Huntsville UU Women
Come and join UU women on Thursday, December 20 at Gail Phillip’s house at 10:30 a.m. Our winter solstice celebration will really be a season of winter celebration, not a ritual. Winter gets a lot of bad hype—we’ll consider the positive aspects of the darkest time of year and have some wassail and cookies together. Please bring a favorite poem or a favorite anecdote about winter to share and a candle to light for our closing. Afterwards we will have a Christmas luncheon at the festively-decorated Elkins Lake Club House. RSVP Gail at 438-8569

Chalice Lighters Call
The Fall 2007 Chalice Lighter call for the Southwestern Unitarian-Universalist Conference is to help the Westside Unitarian-Universalist Church of Ft. Worth Texas fund improvements to their new church home. Two years ago the Westside church survived a devastating fire and they are now trying to improve the interior and exterior of their worship space. To be a Chalice Lighter, one must give a minimum of $10.00 three times a year in response to each call.
