Hi. My name is "Butch".

That's not my real name. Call me by any other name (real name), and I may not answer. That's (Charles V. Rogers Jr.)

My grandmother named me "Butch" after the Little Rascal's gang leader before he became the bully of the neighborhood. I don't even remember seeing those particular shows. Anyway, I was born in 1951 in a little place called St. Albans, West Virginia. Eventually I was named after my dad, (Jr.)

I grew up in St.Albans the first 11 years, then moved to South Charleston in 1962, in an area called Davis Creek/Ruthdale, in what is now Southridge, Dudley Farms, and Trace Fork Shopping Centers on Corridor G outside of Charleston, West Virginia. There used to be an airfield where the Southridge Center is now. We use to play there as kids before it was finally sold and turned into commercial property. I had always dreamed of flying, and living near an airport was the dream of any kid, only problem, no airplanes!!!!!!

I finally finished (graduated) High School in 1969, and set out exploring the great big wide world. It was the end of the 60's, but I was still trying to catch up. My first car was the 1961 Corvair 4 door, automatic. I caddied many a weekend and some evenings to get that thing ready for the road, insurance and gas. I was so impressed with that one that I turned around and bought another one a year latter, only this time a 2 door coupe with a four speed transmission. I was hot now. You have to remember, this was the era of the muscle car, and I had a Corvair. Finally I got a rear drive car, a 1963 Chevy II SS.( a start) in 1970. They had 6 cylinders in these. This thing was crashed  by a guy with no insurance and I ended up buying my first real car, a 1964 Impala SS. This is the car I had when I went in the Army.

I joined the Army in 1971, and spent 3 1/2 years there. I did a lot of traveling, thanks to Uncle Sam. Europe, the eastern part of the U.S. and even the Rockies of Colorado. After that, I returned to Charleston, WV and settled down into the yuppie life style. Wife, kid and the van. I worked in a Chevrolet Dealership for the next 5 years. I finally got to fly and in 1980, I took my check ride for my Private Pilot Single Engine Land. Finally got to become a pilot, after paying through the nose for flight time. Uncle Sam wouldn't let me, I wore glasses.

This led to a position and settling down in Jackson County, West Virginia. Ravenswood (I-18). The Jackson County Airport. I managed this place for 6 years. While here I became interested in E.M.S. (Emergency Medical Service). I finally went full time with the County with the Ambulance service in 1990.

I have been with them now for 24 years, and guess I'm pretty well settled in and suppose I'll just hang my hat here and finish raising my family in this nice quiet County.

After a divorce, I met my current very supportive, lovely wife while transitioning to EMS in 1986. Her name is Maureen, she is 11 years my junior. We are raising our 3 children, Ethan 14, Jordan 17, and Heather 22. We have lived in our modest home outside Ravenswood, West Virginia, since 1996. We have decided to make this our permanent home and stay at least until the kids are away. (unless we win the lottery)

My first son, Christopher Shawn, is helping raise my two grandchildren in Jackson County also,

 Shawn and Brook Rogers.

I became a Paramedic in 1992 after having worked as an E.M.T. since 1986. I enjoy my work in E.M.S. and have learned to take a lot of things in stride. There are times I wonder if I'm in the right line of work. I hope I have made a difference in someone's life. If I have, I'll feel it has all been worth the time and effort put into this. That is what keeps me going.

I have yet added another job to my resume. I have been working part-time in our Medical Command center in Wood County, West Virginia. This is a very unique experience and have been doing this for 4 years now. West Central Medical Command serves a very large area, including the Metro Parkersburg area, with 2 Hospitals that serve jointly as Medical Command for our Region.

I now have to announce that I have left the above Medical Command Center and have moved to another one in this State.

In January of 2010, WESTCOM  was moved to Flatwoods,WV. That is a two hour drive for me, so I changed jobs and applied to CAMC (Healthnet Aeromedical) for a position at Charleston Medbase, and have been working per diem since October 2010. I am still a telecommunicator there interacting between the hospitals and transporting ambulances (online medical command) and soon the dispatching of the Aeromedical helicopters for this area.

I now have added a new dimension to my profile and life. I have entered the world of retirement, sort of. As of June 1 2011, I am no longer a full time paramedic with Jackson County EMS. I have retired from the County after 26 years. I have taken a full time position with Charleston Medbase. It is really a strange feeling not to go to work in a uniform as such, heavy trousers, and combat boots, with a heavy (now bright yellow) Coat. Instead of a radio on my belt, I sit in front of a console to talk on a radio and the telephone. The opportunity to retire and live a little better life presented itself and I had to jump at it. I'm 60 years old and this is getting to be a young persons job.

This position will allow me to help in so many more situations with the care and treatment of patients. I also will learn even more in the world of emergency medicine.
