Hi. My name is "Butch" Rogers

That's the name I'm known by. Call me by my real name, and I may not answer. That's (Charles V. Rogers Jr.)

My grandmother named me "Butch" after the Little Rascal's gang leader before he became the bully of the neighborhood. I don't remember seeing these particular shows. Anyway, I was born in 1951 in a little place called St. Albans, West Virginia. I was named after my dad, (Jr.)

I grew up in St. Albans WV the first 11 years, then we moved to South Charleston in 1962, in an area called Davis Creek/Ruthdale, in what is now Southridge, Dudley Farms, and Trace Fork Shopping Centers on Corridor G outside of Charleston, West Virginia. There used to be an airfield (Bollinger Field) where the Regional Jail is now. We use to play there as kids before it was finally sold and turned into commercial property. I had always dreamed of flying, and living near an airport was the dream of any kid, only problem, no airplanes!!!!!!

I finished (graduated) High School in 1969, and set out exploring the world. It was the end of the 60's, but I was still trying to catch up. My first car was a 1961 Corvair 4 door, automatic. I caddied many a weekend and some evenings to get that thing ready for the road, insurance and gas. I was so impressed with that one that I turned around and bought another one a year latter, only this time a 2 door coupe with a four speed transmission. I was hot now. You have to remember, this was the era of the muscle car, and I had a Corvair. Then finally I got a rear drive car, a 1963 Chevy II SS.( a start) in 1970. They were 6 cylinders, but it was a S.S. This was crashed into by a guy with no insurance and I ended up buying my first real car, a 1964 Impala SS. This is the car I had when I entered the Army.

I joined the Army in 1971, and spent 3 1/2 years, serving fulltime. Thanks to Uncle Sam, I did some traveling. First to Columbia, South Carolina, Ft. Jackson (basic), then Ft. Eustis Virginia (AIT). Shipped out from Ft. Dix New Jersey landing in Frankfurt Germany, where I spent 2 years in an Aviation Unit (295 Aviation) on Finthen AAF. After a tour there, was reassigned to the Rockies of Colorado for 9 months to finish my commitment. After leaving Ft. Carson, I returned to Charleston, WV and settled down into the yuppie life style. Wife, house, kid and the van. I worked in a Chevrolet Dealership for the next 5 years, and tried opening a garage in South Charleston, WV, where I finally got to fly, and in 1980, I took my check ride for my Private Pilot Single Engine Land. I had to pay for this, but it lead me to another job where I settled for another 6 years. Finally becoming a pilot, I then obtained my A&P rating and began doing maintenance on flight school and local aircraft. In 1984 I became the airport manager for Ravenswood, Jackson County (I18), where I stayed until 1992.

While here, I became interested in E.M.S. (Emergency Medical Service), then after my first marriage ended.   I met Maureen, a very supportive, caring, loving woman while transitioning to EMS in 1985. We raised our 3 children, Ethan, Jordan, and Heather. My first son, Christopher Shawn, from my first marriage, is here in Jackson County as well, helping raise my grandson and two great grandchildren. We moved from the airport to our modest home outside Ravenswood, West Virginia, in 1996.

I worked part-time as an EMT until I was hired full-time in 1990. Became a Paramedic in 1992. I enjoyed my work in E.M.S. and learned to take a lot of things in stride. There are times I wonder if I was in the right line of work. I hope I've made a difference in someone's life. If I have, I feel it has all been worth the time and effort put into this. That is what kept me going. I enjoyed helping people, especially during their time of  misfortune.

I was with Jackson County for 25+ years, and retired from there. During my time at Jackson County EMS I started working part-time in the Medical Command system in Parkersburg, WV, which lead to my final position for 7 years in Charleston, WV as a Certified Medical Flight Telecommunicator, and Medical Command Communicator with a large hospital, where part of my job was to dispatch and track aeromedical aircraft.

I've  hung my hat here in Ravenswood, WV and we have decided to make this our permanent home. (unless we win the lottery). Maureen and I plan to do some traveling and enjoy ourselves while we are still able. We are empty nesters and have grandchildren now. Life has slowed for me some, but it's still a big world out there to explore.
