Motorcycle Journeys
Texas Journeys
I suggest the following resources for these
journeys and particularly for discovering
your own journeys!
- Official State Texas Tourism Site here has all sorts of on-line information and
you can get (for free) the Texas State Travel Guide, which we use ALL the time. Call call 800-8888-TEX
or find Travel Guide on their website (currently here)
- Texas Atlas and Gazetteer by DeLorme contains large maps with contour shading,
most roads, parks, and such, along with somewhat
detailed street maps for some cities.
- The Roads of Texas by Shearer Publishing contains large maps which supposedly show
"all roads in Texas". These are
based on county maps, and I have yet to find
a road that isn't listed. It does show some
very small roads that Texas Atlas and Gazetteer does not.
- Motorcycle Journeys Through Texas by Neal Davis. Great routes by region: El Paso - The Wild West, San Antonio - The
Hill Country, Houston - The Coastal Route,
Dallas-Fort Worth - East Texas, Palo Duro
Canyon
Central Texas - The Hill Country
- The Loop, also known as The 330s or The Holy Trinity
- Map and Directions. This route west of Kerrville is said to
be some of the best twistie riding in Texas.
- Fredericksburg - Willow City Loop - Marble
Falls - FM 1431 - Lime Creek Road
- Map and Directions. This route is described in Motorcycle Journeys Through Texas as Day 9: Fredericksburg to Austin (NE Loop). You will get into the Austin city limits
when riding FM 1431 and RR 620, but you will
be quite a ways west of the city itself.
Still, traffic on that part of the ride can
be significant so plan accordingly, particularly
for weeday rush hours. There is some really
great riding along this route - pretty and
twistie.
