Iron Butt
by James Ebb Huggins, Jr.

Bill (Iron Butt) Mackey - a motor cycle Orienteer so bold,
Has done a deed that has never been done - by anyone quite so old.

With leather jacket on, helmet installed, and gloves ready to go,
He pointed his mighty Red Rider toward El Paso - ready to show
All that would see that he could make it, could do what had never been done,
Could push the envelope of time and space - to outrun the mighty sun.

He started from Wascom, Texas - a little place in the road
With one rider along as wing man - to prove that what he would do could be showed
To the world of motorcycle riders - and to those of us who do not ride,
That he could win the mighty Iron Butt Trophy - with only God at his side.

He started the 15 hour journey westward - with the wind blowing in his face,
To get to El Paso before the sun did - to win the coveted race.
When he arrived he decided - that this accomplishment was not enough,
So extend his noble journey - just to show that he had the "right stuff".

He continued on for many miles - then returned for many more,
And noted that after 1,530 statutes in 36 hours - his rear end was not even sore.

You can see why he got the Iron Butt Trophy - with certificate, plaque and all,
For anyone with a butt so strong - stands among the tallest of the tall.
