The Whistling Mother's Day Card
By Granddaddy Huggins
Mother's Day, 2001

Have you ever been falsely charge with an act,
Accused of doing something you didn't do?
Have someone look down their nose at you,
Not saying "I'm sorry!" when they were through?

Well, it happened to me the other day,
When I was looking for a Mother's Day card
For my sweet wife Lois at the card store,
Where finding just the right one is very hard.

I was browsing through the many cards there,
Big one, little ones; cards of every kind,
And there was a lady doing the same thing,
Standing not far behind.

When I chose one that I thought was real cute,
One that dealt with "attraction and reaction",
I was startled when I opened the card and heard,
A "whistle at a pretty woman" sound which caused some action.

The lady close by said, "Did you do that"?
I replied, "No mam, it was the card".
She looked at me with doubting eyes and said,
"Believing that is very hard".

With that she gave me one last look,
A "how dare an old man like you whistle at me"?
I guess she had a real good point,
Because she was not too much to see.

So I got the "attraction/reaction" Mother's Day card,
That, when you open it, gives out a loud whistle,
And was pleased to give it to Lois, my dear Wife,
Rather than the lady with hair in a bristle.
