They Let Me Turn

When our oldest daughter was very young - she liked doing what little girls do,
Like playing with the other little kids - being a part of all they go through.
But she was younger than most of them there - fun they would not let her take.
She often came home at the end of the day - crying like her heart would break.

One day the kids were jumping rope - it was a lot of fun to do,
But someone had to turn the rope - a task liked by very few.
They noticed Linda standing there - with "being a part" on her mind
And allowed her to turn the rope - not really with the intent of being kind.

Linda came home that evening - excited and filled with joy.
Just as if it was Christmas Time and she had received a special toy.
We rejoiced in her happiness and ask why her excitement did so burn.
She responded, "They let me play! They let me play! They finally let me turn."
