What It's All About
by James Ebb Huggins, Jr.

I first saw this young lady, at the CAP O clinic the other night.
As she sat in the back of the class-room, trying to stay out of sight.
She obviously was not proud, of who she thought she might be,
And did not want to be found out; not there for others to see.

Today we continued the clinic, in the woods at Barksdale's Flag Lake,
And the young lady showed up for the training, to see what award she might take.
She was still showing some withdrawals, but not as bad as before,
And responded to several questions, while standing on the forest floor.

With each correct answer, one could see pride grow in her eyes,
As she discovered something to present as evidence, that she was wise.
She held her shoulders more erect, head up, and displayed a confident smile,
And felt real good about herself, at least for a little while.

I saw her again some times later, as I purchased things at the store
As she and her Mother with two little ones, came through the grocery store door.
She greeted me with an enthusiastic "Hey there!", and a smile from ear to ear.
"That's what it's all about!" I said to myself, and shed a thankful tear.
