brought to you by JRF in Georgetown, TX. Call 512-868-2925 for all your computer and network service needs.
These commands work in most file, edit and browser windows. A little playing will widen your horizons. Of course, old habits are hard to break... it took me years to learn some of these short cuts.
Magic mouse clicks:
- Right-click = Properties box. Also gives mouse cut, copy and paste.
- Right-click Refresh or even easier, F5 = Refresh the window.
- Right-click Send-To = Easy copy to floppy, CD writer or email.
- Select-All on right click or Edit menu = easy select.
Tired of clicking and mousing and missing the button? Use Windows shortcut keys.
Here are a few good ones, please leave a feedback with your favorites and I'll post them here.
- Shift-Delete = Permanant delete.
- When highlighting, Shift-arrow or click selects a range, Ctrl-click selects or deselects individual objects.
- Windows-E (the key with the little Windows logo on it and E) starts Windows Explorer, to explore your disk drives.
- Ctrl-C = copy, Ctrl-V = paste, Ctrl-X = cut.
- Use Page-Up and Page-Down, Home and End instead of scrolling with the mouse.
- Ctrl-left & right arrow = skip word.
- Ctrl-Page-Up and Page-Down, Home and End = skip to top & bottom.
- Alt-FS = File save, Alt-FX-Enter = File exit with save.
- Tab = Move to next field on form. Don't remove your hand from the keyboard to move the mouse, just type Tab.
- Crtl-F or sometimes F3 = Find.
- Esc = Cancel a click box.
Have fun!
