Here are my notes about bulbs.

Also take up the mast: Something to clean the inside of the lens, and something to clean the bulb contacts.

We made the mistake of replacing one of the Halogen bi-pin bulbs with a20-watt bulb.

It burnt up the plastic of the adjustable fixture in the boat and could have started a fire because of the extra heat it generated..

There is a warning that you can't read on those fixtures until you take it down, that the maximum wattage is 10 watts.

DO NOT try to put anything bigger than a 10 watt G4 12Volt Bi Pin into those fixtures.

The bulb is a JC Type Bi-Pin G4 12V

Deck Light

I got some great mast maintenance tips from Fred Jackson a while back. I am about to restep my mast and I wondered if anyone would advise replacing the VHF antenna and running a new coaxial wire up the mast. Mine would be about 10 years old. Not sure if they wear out or any advances have been made since it was originally installed. I was also curious about the foredeck light on the mast. I know this has been a topic before. Mine does not appear to have any cover just a bare bulb inside an oxidized silver sphere. Should it have a cover, it seems kind of exposed.

Darrell,

The deck light fixture does not come with a lens.  One thing to remember about that light is that the halogen bulb should not be touched with bare hands.  Wear a glove or use a cloth.  That's not to protect your hands.  It's to protect the bulb from contact with some natural skin oils (or something- I'm not really sure what) that the bulb doesn't like.  But while the mast is down, you should consider replacing the bulb, or at least cleaning the contacts on both the bulb and the fixture.   The bulb is:  Perko Cat. No. 68-12V-20W.
