Cabin Sole Care
Regarding the "Ultimate
Sole" product, unless I hear otherwise, this is the product I plan to use
either this year or next. I plan to use
a satin/semi-gloss. I also spent quite a
bit of time talking with the rep for this product (and also the Epifines (sp?) product at the
I'll report the good, bad
and ugly whenever I complete the job...

The owner / rep at the show
said he gets a lot of initial interest (sales)from
buyers wanting the product for their steps a result of the non-skid
properties. He then said it is common
for those customers to use the product throughout their walking surfaces. I would check Practical Sailor as well. I don't recall anything specific (concerns or
otherwise) about "exterior" use.
I refinished my steps last year with a spar exterior and I am
considering giving them a couple more coats with this stuff simply to prevent
slipping. The spar product I used is
slippery - definitely not a good thing on steps. I think Lats and Atts wrote a piece on Ultimate Sole as well. I'm sure there are a number of very good
products; the simple prep, ease of application and coating properties appealed
to me. You can tape off areas and fill
deep scratches, dings or other indentations in preparation for the final full
coats. The product is viscous enough to
provide some buildup without effecting its coloration.
Again, it is important to
remember I have yet to use the product, I will have
first hand experience in a few weeks. As
you probably can tell I was interested enough to visit with them at their booth
for awhile and order the product.
