Fresh Water Strainer
Shurflo makes two versions
of the strainer - one with a hose barb on the inlet (piping side) and one with
1/2" NPT threads. Both have
1/2" NPT female threads on the outlet side that attaches to the pump's inlet
fitting. Our boat was plumbed with
semi-rigid pipe and Whale fittings and we use the "pipe thread"
version of the strainer. It is listed in
West Marine's catalog as Shurflo # 170-061-29 on page 531.
I don't know if others have
experienced the same but we found the weak point of these strainers are the
tabs that form the bayonet fitting between the two halves of the strainer -
both of our failures (2 in 5 seasons) have occurred at this point and were
originally caused by improper placement of the mounting clips for the piping that
put sideways pressure on the strainer.
Hope this helps.
